This gentleman was probably buried without a stone, and when his wife died, they added it. The person that did the etching obviously made a mistake. There are a few mistakes like this in this cemetery. But, the families should know that he is here.

19350. Charles Hodgdon Carpenter

NAME; Middle name also spelled Hodgon.
Notes for CHARLES HODGON CARPENTER:
When he was 10 yrs old his family moved to a farm in Chichester Center,NH,
and there he attained his majority. He got his education while attending
local schools and work on the farm the rest of the year. He soon became a
instructor of youth and taught school several winters. At a early age he
showed a military spirit, and at ninteen was comissioned  Lieutenant of the
militia, and subsequently promoted to captaincy in the Thirty-Eighth
Regiment. Through his influence his company was supplied uniforms, which the
other companies did not have, thus Captain Carpenter's company became the
pride of the regiment.
Soon after he was twenty one he went to live with his maternal uncle Jacob
Perkins who resided on a large farm. His uncle was in the cattle business
for many years and dealt extensively in northern NewHampshire & Vermont, and
drove cattle, before the days of railroad in the upper country. Charles
enjoyed these trips many that he made.
In 1851 The Pittsfield Bank was opened and he accepted a position as cashier
for the next five years. Mr Perkins' health was failing at that time so
charles was obligated to help his uncle and stepped down from his position
at the bank. He devoted a large amt of his tiume to the duties of the farm
in Chichester. He still maintained his connection to the banks and later
was president of the Merchants National bank, at Dover ,NH since its
inaguration.
