Bio:
One of Jefferson County's oldest pioneers, she was the daughter of Stephen Decatur Carpenter a veteran of the War of 1812 and Jerusha Rose. She came with her first husband Dabney C. Bragg in 1842 from Knox County, IL.
Dabney died in 1843 and is buried in an unmarked grave in Glasgow Cemetery. They had one son, Julius Dabney Bragg.
Julia then married John Strong and they had 8 children: Clara, Harriet, Sophria, Albert L., James D., Cynthia and twins that died as infants.
Julia was stepmother to George Strong, the first soldier from Jefferson County to die in the War between the states. She shares a monument with him.
