Per the mother's list of children born/living in the 1900 US Census, she had 8 children of which 8 are still living.
This makes me think that this Gilbert is misplaced or incorrect for this family.
BUT ... in the 1910 US Census the mother reports that she had 9 children of which 8 are alive. And no children born after 1900.
They had John Woodrow Brown who married Mary Louise Brehm. And those two had Lloyd J. Brown of Mount Vernon, WA.

Bio:
Stephen, son of Eleazer Willard Carpenter and Emily Molly Plummer Carpenter, was born in Pepin County, Wisconsin. He came to Nebraska with his family in 1872 arriving in Gibbon on September 19.
The family lived in Gibbon until their home was built on the homestead (NW 1/4,Section14,T11,R15) Cedar Township, Buffalo County, Nebraska.
The family came to Nebraska traveling in two wagons each pulled by four oxen with a large herd of cattle.Stephen and Nancy Adelle Barker were married in Buffalo County on October 18, 1883.
Adelle proved up on a homestead in Cedar Township also (NE 1/4 of Section 22). They were the parents of Felix, Sarah, Susan, Erwin and Louis.

Cyril, son of Eleazer Willard Carpenter and Emily Molly Plummer Carpenter, was born in Pepin County, Wisconsin on September 4, 1863. He came to Buffalo County, Nebraska with his family in 1872 arriving at Gibbon on September 19 of that year.
They spent the first winter in Gibbon while their home was built in Section 14 (NW1/4) of Cedar Township. They traveled from Wisconsin with 2 wagons each pulled by four oxen and a large herd of cattle. They endured many hardships such as blizzards and grasshoppers which destroyed their crops and gardens.Cyril and Philapenna Laura Howe, daughter of Gustine and Gertrude Howe, were married in Kearney, Nebraska on December 23, 1887.

Number 6730 in the Carpenter Memorial. A Civil engineer.
He was educated at the public schools, at Hartford High School and under a
private german tutor at home for some years. He took up the study and practice
of civil engineering. He went to England and stayed there for some 8 years in
the study and practice of his profession. He also practiced in Germany (where
several of his children were born), Russia and several other countries. He
finally returned to America with his young family about 1892.
