ANCESTRY: This line is believed to be Rehoboth and not Providence. Confirmed by Y-DNA testing of a descendant. By elimination and review of the 2013 data base, the closes match to this person is John Carpenter-20909 b. abt 1764 Minisink, Orange, NY. JC-20909 has a father of Increase Carpenter-13042 b. abt 1736 Goshen, Orange, NY. JRC
NAME: Middle initial R.?
MARRIAGES: Only confirmed marriage is to Anna ____ who died in 1849 MI.
Per Charles Carpenter, son - his death record indicates a Lidia as mother. This adds another marriage to the mix.
There was a speculated marriage to Hannah Butts who married a John Carpenter born about the same time and in NY. That line is a Providence, RI line. Y-DNA Testing could really help on this line. The two Johns ARE NOT the same. See John Carpenter-27041 who married Hannah Butts. This speculated marriage removed.CENSUS: 1830 US Census - 2 possibles - 1 in Monroe County NY and the other in Michigan territory.

Family on page 272 (# 311)
PARENTS: Was this another smashed together family? The father (b. abt 1760) and
this Increase (b. 1787) could have been merged together???
MARRIAGE: Married about age 15 with two children in same year???
BIRTH: Birth thought of as about 1760 but the following seems otherwise.
NOTE the date calulator for Age 50-8-11 with died on 8/14/1838 works out to be
about 3 Dec 1787.E-MAIL: Tue, 2 May 2000 From: Robin Carpenter
Here are some further Carpenter finds from my April pilgrimage to Orange
County NY. The cemetery I visited in Ridgebury is next to the Grace United
Methodist church, but is also associated with the Presbyterian church across
the road. I do not know which graves may be associated with which church.
Increase Carpenter, d. 8/14/1838, aged 50-8-11.
This is clearly Increase #870 in ABC's Carpenter Memorial
Rebekah, Wife of Increase Carpenter, d. 2/19/1841 in 60th year
Note the "Rebekah" spelling on the stone; diff from ABC's
William Carpenter, d. 10/18/1859, aged 18-2-5
This is evidently ABC's #2099 (son of Increase)
Note the implied birth date inconsistent with father's and
mother's deaths...probably implying I mis-read something.
John Carpenter, d. 10/21/1862, aged 60-7-18
ABC's #2098 (son of Increase); John's dau directly next to Increase
Hannah Jane, Wife of John Carpenter, d. 2/13/1855, aged 55-7-27
wife of #2098
Susan(?), daughter of John and Hannah Carpenter, d. 1/20/1841(?)
>>CASE follow-up:
>>Next to John & Hannah Carpenter are Gideon & Hannah Case
>>(Sorry, I neglected to get the dates.)
Isaac Carpenter, d. 9/24/1863, aged 61-3-15
ABC's #2100, a son of Increase #870
Charlotte M, Wife of Isaac Carpenter; b.5/30/1820, d.9/8/1900
ABC has her as Charlotte W, but my reading of the stone is M
Emmet, son of Isaac and Lizzie Carpenter; d.8/20/1875
This stone is between Isaac & Charlotte; is Lizzie a 1st wife?
Carrie B. Carpenter, dau of Isaac and Charlotte M; d.6/29/1873, 10-7-3
Sally Carpenter; d.5/6/1876 aged 63 yrs
Eliza Carpenter; d.1/30/1869 aged 61 years
These two stones are adjacent, suggesting unmarried sisters
They COULD be ABC's #2271 and 2274, but then ABC has life data wrong
E. Dallas Carpenter 1844-1919
Marrier(?) Reed Carpenter 1818-1845
William C. Carpenter b. 5/6/1805
George L. Carpenter, 1897-1963
Nellie S. Carpenter, 1818-1845
Frank E. Carpenter, 1876-1949
Oscar Carpenter, 1848-1936
Maggie O'Connell 1862-1949
And here are a couple of Reeves (surprised I didn't find dozens here!):
James Westmere(?) Reeve; b.9/6/1811, d.6/22/1890
Fannie Little Reeve; b.unreadable, d. 5/11/1890

Now James- James Carpenter is neighbors with John of Lumberland in 1800 (making James 23). From JW Johston's book I know he marries Lucy Ingersol "Daughter of Alpheus and brother Abraham". Alpheus Ingerold.... neighbor's to John(246526) of Lumberland 1800 as well. John of Lumberland's son Joseph marries Dorcus Ingersol, sister of Lucy, they were neighbors after all.
JWJohnston, states James and Lucy leave Lumberland down the Delaware in 1816 heading toward Ohio. They are also in the Lumberland church record baptizing three children.
A James and Lucy show up in Greene Pennsylvania. I have connected with a gr,grandchild of these two and he can confirm in his DNA test that he is related to Ingersols who are not Carpenters. James of Greene PA is born in.... 1777 NY. This James/Lucy of Lumberland is James/Lucy of Greene. James and Lucy of PA have a daughter Dorcus. If James is from Lumberland, there is a chance he IS John's (246526) son.
This James is often attributed as John J's son. Jame's first daughter baptized in the church is Frances, John (the son of (246526) first daughter is also Frances baptized in the same church. I also have (246526) attending this church with Son's John and Joseph.... and maybe James. I find this very curious.

-
Albany County was an original county created in 1683. At the time, it included all of New York state north of Dutchess and Ulster counties, all of what is now Bennington County in Vermont, and theoretically west to the Pacific Ocean. Adjustments were made frequently
On April 5, 1798, another partition took place, with 90 square miles (230 km2) passing to Ulster County.
On March 25, 1800, once again Albany County was partitioned, with 360 square miles (930 km2) being used to create Greene County.[34]
On March 7, 1809, Schenectady County was created from 230 square miles (600 km2) of Albany County land,[36] reducing Albany County to its current size.

-
Orange County, an original county, was first created in 1683 and reorganized with its present boundaries in 1798.
In 1798, after the American Revolutionary War, the boundaries of Orange County changed. Its southern corner was used to create the new Rockland County, and in exchange, an area to the north of the Moodna Creek was added, which had previously been in Ulster County. This caused a reorganization of the local administration, as the original county seat had been fixed at Orangetown in 1703, but this was now in Rockland County. Duties were subsequently shared between Goshen, which had been the center of government for the northern part of Orange County, and Newburgh, which played a similar role in the area transferred from Ulster County. The county court was established in 1801. It was not until 1970 that Goshen was named as the sole county seat.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orange_County,_New_York-
Herkimer County was created in 1791 north of the Mohawk River out of part of Montgomery County.
Onondaga County was split off from Herkimer County in 1794. This county was larger than the current Onondaga County, including the present Cayuga, Cortland, and part of Oswego Counties.
In 1799, Cayuga County was split off from Onondaga.
In 1808, Cortland County was split off from Onondaga.
In 1816, parts of Oneida and Onondaga Counties were taken to form the new Oswego County.
At the time Onondaga County was organized, it was divided into eleven towns: Homer, Pompey, Manlius, Lysander, Marcellus, Ulysses, Milton, Scipio, Ovid, Aurelius and Romulus.

In the south part of the town settlement began before 1800, and there came such pioneers as Ebenezer Conklin, Phineas Sparks, Gideon Seeley, Gilbert Pinckney, Turner Fenner, and Amasa Chapman. Later settlers were John Clark, Obadiah Nichols, John Carpenter, Zebulon Rust, Henry Frost, Oliver Cummings, Joseph Warner, Isaac Parmater, and Daniel Chafee, all before 1805.

Attention is now directed to the south and west parts of Onondaga, which had become prosperous localities even before many of the preceding events took shape. In the vicinity of South Onondaga, known in early days as South Onondaga Hollow, were such pioneers as Gideon Seeley, Phineas Sparks, Ebenezer Conklin, Turner Fenner, Gilbert Pinckney, Amasa Chapman, Obadiah Nichols, John Clark, Henry Frost, John Carpenter, ...
