DAVID E. CARPENTER
17 Jan 1982
A head-on crash on Route 16 Sunday evening took the life of David E. Carpenter, 19, of St. Marys. Also killed in the fatal accident was Harley Williamson, 72 of Mountain, Ritchie County. The accident occurred at 8:10pm according to Deputy Sheriff Larry Barnhart, who was the investigating officer at the scene. Roads were snow covered at the time, reports said. Initial reports of the crash show that Williamson's car first sideswiped a car driven by Judy Andria Farson, of St. Marys, and then traveled on more than 600 feet striking the Carpenter car head-on. Both the Farson and Carpenter vehicles were traveling towards St. Marys, it was reported. Williamson's body was sent to Charleston for an autopsy by the Medical Examiner's Office, Barnhart said. Funeral services were conducted for Carpenter on Wednesday at the Ruttencutter Funeral Home in St. Marys. Burial in the IOOF Cemetery in St. Marys. He was born in Parkersburg, a son of Walter and Sarah Webb Carpenter of St. Marys. He was a student at Parkersburg Community College.Family Members
