Bound between the Old and New Testaments are a couple of printed Family
Records pages. These begin with the names Calvin Hosford and Lucy Carpenter,
married 1823.

Calvin Hosford was born in 1791 in Thetford, Vermont; the Hosford family was
one of the original families to settle in Thetford, and more information can
be fund on this beautiful website: Thetford History.

He married Lucy Carpenter, who appears in the 24th generation in the history
that traces back to William the Carpenter, of Melun, France. Laid-in at
these pages is a lock of hair, and a teaching certificate for Piermont N.H.
School, for Miss L. Hosford, dated 1883.

The Bible is illustrated by some black and white full page woodcut
illustration plates. In addition to this being a nice early Woodstock,
Vermont printing, the Family Records pages are well filled in, with many
entries in all categories: birth, marriages, and deaths. The central figures
of the family records are Joel Hosford and Alice Kendrick who were married
in Lyme, N.H. in 1824. However, both births and deaths extend backward and
forward, from 1755-1905, and include Marriages of:

John K. Hosford and Sarah W. Niles
John H. Hosford and Louisa P.Winn
George W. Stanley and Abbie C. Hosford
John Charles Hosford and Mattie P. Buck.

SEE: Woodstock Vital Records, p.131; archive record (7450313/0). Her given
name appears as "Irenea" in marriage record, records of first three
children's births, reflected in IGI.  Newspaper transcription of 1st

which is incorrect---could this have been a granddaughter?] (G.S.017,896).
Widow's Revolutionary War pension file states she was a member
in good standing of Brick Presbyterian Church in Rochester about
1840; in fact, she is listed as a founding member of that church.
Newspaper transcription of 2nd Presbyterian (Brick) Church
records state "Irene Sibley removed to Wisconsin" (G.S.017,896).
Death date, cemetery information from Cemetery Records, Monroe, NY,
giving CT connections Cemetery microfice indicates she died at age 80,
gives birthdate as 31 Jul 1766 instead of 30th.

Subject: CDs
Hello John,

Rec'd the CDs & am having a wonderful time going thru all the files.  What terrific research - I congratulate you.  I'm glad you researched the Carpenters back to France because my uncle always told me I must have French blood - I use my hands when I talk.  (Someone just said the same thing to me the other day at the grocery store.)

Re our Enos in Lansdowne Twp, Leeds Co.  We found Enos who fits in with ours in the History of the Town of Surry, Cheshire County, New Hampshire by Frank Burnside Kingsbury of the N.H & VT Hist. Soc.  He is the s/o Stephen & Zilpha Wilbur, and was born May 8, 1794.  You had a later date, which wouldn't have fit in with ours.  My grgrgrfa, Stephen, was b. in Que. about 1819.

The history has a photo of John Carpenter b. 1810 (in Samuel's line) who has a chin just like my now departed uncle - exactly the same, with a cleft.  Much about his face is very similar, even the hair.  He was over six ft. as were his two sons - one of whom played professional hockey a number of yrs ago &, at that time, was the tallest in the National Hockey League.  Everytime he went on the ice, the commentators mentioned he was 6 ft. 5" (that was without skates).  My uncle's grsons are the same.

I told my new cousin contact how much I'm enjoying the CDs & she's going to order them.  Thanks so very much for sharing your research....it is very exciting for us!

Warmest regards,

Geraldine Chase, Gananoque, ON

COMMENT:
Benjamin C-47927 (son of Benjamin C-13201 & Margaret) married Mary Seaver-47928 (no marriage date) and has 1 child listed - Benjamin C-47929 (married Hannah Whiting-47951 about 1797 – 7 children).
Benjamin C-17967 (son of Benjamin C-17965 & Joanna Hayward) married Ruth Howard-17919 24 Nov 1784. They have 7 children listed including a Benjamin C-17912 (married Rowena Wilbur-17923 on 31 Dec 1815 – 1 child listed).
The two Benjamin Cs could be the same person if one rejects that the first (BC-47927) did NOT die in the Revolutionary War. No records found by Amos nor anyone else to fit this person. The spouses and children are compatible with a first then second wife scenario. The known data is not inconsistent.
The two sons of the same BCs above, Benjamin C-47929 & Benjamin C-17912. They have births respectively of abt 1777/1781 (with marriage abt 1797) and 17 May 1788 (with marriage 31 Dec 1815).
They are likely not the same unless the former married at about age 9.

Mary Seaver

CONFLICT:  maybe not ...
A Mary (Sever) Seaver married a Benjamin Carpenter.  BUT .... compare birth dates.
Benjamin Carpenter (RIN 13148) b. 11 Jul 1749 - d. 17 Jan 1837 married Mary Pugley 9 Sep 1773 in Dutchess County, NY.
Mary Pugley was born 25 Mar 1756 NY and died 16 Nov 1821. They are both buried in Stanford, Dutchess, NY.
Mary Sever was born 24 Mar 1756 in Kingston, NH.  per below.
It appears the birth dates are just very close but wrong states and different Benjamins. <------

An extract of a letter from John A. Wallace of Buffalo,,NY, in
which this family is given more fully:-
"BUFFALO,,NY, Feb. 2, 1894.
A. B. CARPENTER,
Dear Sir -The information regarding the father of Polly
Carpenter I derived from my aunt, the only surviving child of
Polly, Mrs. Laura Olcott of Oshkosh, Wis., who is now past 90
years of age, so we can excuse her errors. She also sent me a
list of the children, which I note by your list, is correct. I
take the liberty of enclosing herewith a list of the descendants
of Nathan and Polly, but as I do it mostly from memory, have few
dates except in the case of my own immediate family. All that I
know regarding the true name of Polly, Dolly, Molly or Mary, is
that in the family Bible it is recorded as Polly, and on the
tombstone as Mary. Everyone called her Polly. You state that
Nathan and Polly moved to Moriah "near Rochester,,NY" This is
an error. Moriah is in Essex county, in the northern part of the
state, while Rochester is in Monroe county in the western
portion. The fact is they followed my father and mother to the
town of Brighton, and settled near them, about one mile from the
city. After the death of grandfather, grandmother came to my
mother's and died at her house. As you will note by the record I
send you, Nathan and Polly had six children, one still living.
This record will also answer your question regarding a brother
Daniel. There was none such. I never knew anything about the
Carpenter family, and am surprised to learn that many of the own
cousins of my mother are still living. If it is not too much
trouble, I would like a transcript of the line,-that is my own
from the emigrant ancestor, if you have him, and if ever you
publish a genealogy, should like a copy. If you have been
engaged on this question for some time, I can sympathize with
you, as I have already traced the Wallace line quite a distance,
and the Sherman family to the ancestor who died in England in
1580. It is for the purpose of having the collateral's straight
that I addressed you. I am a strong believer in Americanism. I
believe the older families should see to it that their records
are followed out, and kept straight while it is possible.
(Signed) JOHN A. WALLACE"
The following are the children of Olive, daughter of Nathan and
Polly (Carpenter) Sherman, who married Timothy Wallace
Olive was born in Moriah,,NY, July 11, i806. She married
Timothy Wallace Feb. 9. ISSS. They resided in Moriah some years,
but in 1832 they removed to Brighton, Monroe county, N. Y., near
the city of Rochester. In 1868 they removed to the city of
Rochester, where she died March 4,1885. In 1889 he removed to
