44637. Margaret Rose Porter

Margaret was born at Custer, WA, and graduated from Mt. Baker High School.  She went to Spokane for nurses training and continued nursing and finally teaching nursing until her retirement about 1972.  She moved into Hawthorne Manor in Spokane "so as not to be a burden to others" and lived there until her death in 1984.  Margaret was one of those people who always looked after others and was always the loving aunt to the many children who knew her.  She never missed the recognition of a birthday or an anniversary. Margaret had contracted tuberculosis as a nurse during WWII and had lost the use of one lung.  This probably contributed to kidney failure and her early death.  She was on dialysis for a number of years during which she still faithfully nursed her father and mother. Many of the family pictures were taken by Margaret.

North Bay — Gerald R. Eastman, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Rex Eastman, died early Wednesday in Syracuse Memorial Hospital of injuries received in an accident Nov. 1. Born Mar 5, 1941, in Rome, he was the son of Edward Rex and Nancy Catherine Evans Eastman. He graduated in 1958 from Camden Central School, and served in the U. S. Air Force at Lackland AFB, Tex. He was honorably discharged Jan. 5, 1959. He was a member of the North Bay Volunteer Fire Dept., and was employed by James Hubbel, contractor. In school he was prominent in sports, playing baseball, football and basketball.He was a member of North Bay Methodist Church. Besides his parents he leaves two brothers, Gregory, serving with the U. S. Army in Heidelberg, Germany, who is home on emergency leave; Richard, at home; two sisters, Sharon and Vickie, both at home; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Clarence Evans, Camden; and paternal grandfather, Charles Eastman, Adams Center. Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the B. A. Sanborn & Son funeral home, the Rev. Fred Jackson of North Bay Methodist Church officiating, and burial will be in North Bay Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 2 to 4, and 7 to 9 p.m. The Advance-Journal, Camden, N.Y., Friday, November 13, 1959

Rome - Sharon Eastman-Allen, 68, of Rome passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014 after battling cancer for many years.

She was born on Sept. 29, 1945, the daughter of Edward Rex and Nancy Eastman of North Bay. She was a graduate of Camden High School, Class of 1963. She was united in marriage to George Allen, of Rome on May 15, 1965.

Her most recent employment was with Oneida Silversmiths in Sherrill and the Defense Finance Accounting Service in Rome.

Sharon is survived by her husband, George; son, Gerald and Karen Allen of Camden; son, George Jr. and Sue Allen of Lowell, Mass.; daughter, Wendy and Nat Ruta of Watchung, N.J.; daughter, Kelly and Richard Shaw of Liverpool; and her seven grandchildren, Jacob Allen, Derek and Brendan Allen, Enzo, Alex and Helena Ruta and Emma Shaw. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Gail Eastman of Verona and her sister, Vicki Morgan of Rome. She was predeceased by her parents, and brothers Gregory and Gerald.

Sharon was a long-time active parishioner of the First United Methodist Church in Rome. The family would like to thank the church for their constant support and prayers during her life and especially during her most recent struggles.

The family would also like to thank all of Sharon's wonderful friends and support groups who have given her all of their caring and love during this time.

Calling hours will start at 12 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 401-403 N. George St., Rome, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made in Sharon's memory to First United Methodist Church, 400 N. George St., Rome, N.Y. 13440 or Hospice, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, N.Y. 13413.
