Henry G. Carpenter

MIDDLEPORT - Henry G. Carpenter, 82, Middleport, died Friday, March 1, 1996 in the Overbrook Nursing Center, Middleport.

Born Dec. 26, 1913 in Meigs County, son of the late Niles and Dora Nelson Carpenter, he was a retired trackman with the New York Central Railroad.

Surviving are two sons, Larry (Ruth) Carpenter, and Randall (Peggy) Carpenter, both of Middleport; three grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandson; three sisters, Kathleen Carpenter, Marjorie Grueser and Evelyn Rife, all of Rutland; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen Carpenter; two brothers, Edgar and Perry Carpenter; and a sister, Anna Cline.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Fisher Funeral Home, Middleport. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Middleport.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 11 a,m, until the time of service.

SYRACUSE - Thelma J. Poulson, 85, of Syracuse, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point Pleasant, W.Va.

Born Sept. 14, 1916, in Mason, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John Martin and Margaret Stewart Martin McGuire.

She is survived by a son, Randall Carpenter.

Services will be held Tuesday, 1 p.m., at Fisher Funeral Home in Pomeroy. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of services.

MIDDLEPORT - Larry D. Carpenter, 58, Middleport, died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998 at his residence, following a brief illness.

Born Oct. 18, 1939 in Meigs County, son of the late Henry Carpenter, and Thelma Martin Carpenter Poulson of Syracuse, he was a self-employed television technician in Middleport.

He attended the Ash Street Baptist Church in Middleport.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Ruth Blackburn Carpenter; a son, Kenneth R. Carpenter of Gallipolis; a stepson, Eddie Patrick of Lebanon, Ohio; three grandchildren; a brother, Randall (Peg) Carpenter of Middleport; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was also preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Anna Shoemaker.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Middleport Chapel of the Fisher Funeral Home, with the Rev. Leslie Hayman officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Middleport.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Helen G. Carpenter, 83, of 981 Hysell St., Middleport, died Monday evening at Veterans Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 24, 1914 at Gallipolis, she was a daughter of the late George and Florence Ralph Gardner.

She was retired from Holsum Bakery, Middleport, and was a member of Middleport Church of Christ.

Surviving are her husband, Henry G. Carpenter, Middleport; one daughter, Martha Fry, Pomeroy; three sons, Paul Eugene Spires of Alexandria, Va., Robert Spires with the U.S. Army in Japan and Jerry Spires of Pasadena, Calif.; two stepsons, Larry Carpenter of Middleport and Randy R. Carpenter of Lakeshore, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Wayne Gardner of Fostoria, George Gardner of Cheshire and Mark Gardner of Bloomdale.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty June Spires, and another daughter who died in infancy; two sisters, Ruth Sansbury and Louise Gilmore; and three brothers, Floyd, Arthur and Carl Gardner.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Rawlings-Coats-Blower Funeral Home with Al Hartson officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home today (Wednesday) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

She was born Sept. 10, 1920 in Minersville, daughter of the late Martha Guinn. She was a member of the Minersville Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Lawrence Douglas of Pomeroy; a grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Carpenter; and by three sisters and one brother.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Pomeroy Chapel of the Fisher Funeral Home, with Pastor Chad Emerick officiating. Burial will be in the Gravel Hill Cemetery, Cheshire.

Friends may call at the chapel from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Minersville Methodist Church or the Pomeroy EMS.
