Bio: Native Portlander Mrs. Otilla Pauline Carpenter, 78, of 13033 SE Powell Blvd., died in a Portland nursing home Sunday.She retired in 1960 from Oregon Laundry Co. She attended school and lived most of her life in the Brooklyn area of Portland. Her husband, Frank, died in 1930.
Mrs. Carpenter is survived by a son, Frank W. of Portland and a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Billie) Combs of Carson City, Nev.; a sister, Mrs. Andrew B. Elder of Portland; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Wilhelm Funeral Home. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Bio: Edythe (Davis) Hansen of Gresham, Oregon passed away January 24, 2012. She was born May 3, 1918 in Pendleton, Oregon to Rodman and Grace Davis.Edythe lived in Pendleton for the first several years of her life, but then moved to Gresham and Portland. She graduated from Gresham High School in 1936.
On December 13, 1945, Edythe married Karl Hansen at Trinity Lutheran Church in Gresham. They were married for nearly 60 years, until Karl passed away in 2002. She worked as a bookkeeper, accountant and secretary for most of her life.
Edythe was a member of First Baptist Church in Gresham, where she belonged to the bible study group, and was on the Missions Committee until she retired at 92. Edythe was a caring and loving woman, and always a gracious host. She loved to entertain, especially card games with friends and family. She enjoyed travel with Karl to Arizona for the winter; after Karl's death she traveled with her son, Roger. Edythe was an avid stamp collector. Edythe was very skilled at Brazilian embroidery, but also enjoyed being outdoors. Whatever she was doing, Edythe needed to be active, preferring to read rather than just sit still.
Edythe was preceeded in death by her husband Karl, son Roger, and sisters Fleta Davis and Dolores Lind. She is survived by her brother Vayne R. Davis of Chandler, AZ, and her many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held for Edythe on Friday at 10:00AM at First Baptist Church in Gresham with reception to follow. Edythe will be laid to rest privately at Oceanview Cemetery in Warrenton, Oregon. Arrangements under the care of Bateman Carroll Funeral Home.

The Great Depression interrupted his college education, but he was well-read and that benefited him his entire life. He was married to several women; my mother was his third wife, and I know but little of his earlier brides. Elder half brother Bob I knew very little, and half sister Annie I knew better when I was very small. My step mother Lillian Bjur was a wonderful woman, and I miss her too. RIP, Dad.
