Per John William Carpenter: George William Carpenter brought the family down from the Montana/Wyoming area about a year after his brother Gerry was born, probably 1924 or so. John William Carpenter grew up in what is Watts today. He took us on a trip to Montana when I was a boy and it was clear he wanted us to feel a connection to that part of the country. Bio: Jean RasmussenJean Ardell Rasmussen died in her Bellevue home in her sleep on October 4, 2015. She was 89.
Jean was born in Nebraska on November 23, 1925. She was raised on a farm by her mother, Elsie Martin and her father, Ray Martin along with her two brothers, Don Martin and John Martin and her sister May Martin.
The family left Nebraska in the late 1930s seeking employment in eastern Washington's fruit orchards. Jean found employment in Vancouver Washington working for Kaiser Shipyards during World War II. In 1946 she married Arthur Carpenter. Together, they had a son, Richard Carpenter of Seattle Washington.
In 1952, Jean and Arthur were divorced. In June 1954, Jean married Ralph Rasmussen of Vancouver Washington. They met working at Pacific Northwest Bell. Jean was a phone operator, Ralph was a construction foreman.
Together, Jean and Ralph had three additional children, Ray Rasmussen of Kirkland, Washing-ton; Kerri Buttts of Monroe, Washington; and Ron Rasmussen of Bonney Lake, Washington.
After retirement, Jean and her husband moved to Mesa, Arizona. There Jean founded a volunteer organization, The Sunshine Comm-ittee, which provided comfort and support to elderly people in need. She served as the leader of the organization for 15 years.
She spent her final years close to her family in the Seattle area.
Services for Jean will be held at Tuell-McKee Funeral Home at 11:00 AM October 10, 2015. The home is located at 2215 6th Ave, Tacoma, Washington.
