Part II. Family sketches
William Ansley was born in Massachusetts in 1773, removed with his parents to Pennsylvania when about four years old, was educated and reared a farmer. In 1792 he in company with Powel Carpenter walked from Lackawanna county, Pa., with nothing but the clothes they wore, and their axes on their shoulders, settled together in Ontario county, N. Y., on the preemption line, five miles southwest of Geneva that then contained one frame and some half dozen log houses. Mr. Carpenter removed a few years later from here to Monroe county, and settled in the town of Scottsville, where he spent the remainder of his days. He served a number of years as one of the judges of that county.

Subject: Abigail Carpenter desc of both Williams

Hello John,
I've just been - yet again- having a look at the Carpenter Cousins pages.  I've noticed a couple of errors in the family of my 3x great grandmother, Abigail CARPENTER, her husband, Daniel DEAN, and their offspring.  I'm pretty sure of my facts, as i have information from family documents as well as Quaker records for Abigail and husband Daniel.

I'm giving you my direct line to Abigail, for context:
Me:
Elizabeth Gail Stringer, born 1950, Vancouver, BC, Canada
Marian Lowe, b. 1924, Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada
Edward Lowe, b. 1883, Ypsilanti, Michigan
Mary Angeline Davis. b. 1856, Troy, Oakland, Michigan
Phebe Titus Dean  b. 1812, Cornwall, Orange, N.Y.
               * Abigail CARPENTER b. 1776, Newcastle, Westchester, NY
Benedict CARPENTER, B. 1740, Scarsdale, Westchester, NY
Benedict CARPENTER, b. 1717 Musketa Cove, NY
William CARPENTER, B. 1666, Pawtucket, Providence, RI
Joseph CARPENTER  ( R.I.) and Hannah CARPENTER, Rehoboth
William CARPENTER (RI)   and William CARPENTER (Rehoboth)

I'm not sure if this document is still being updated, but just in case, though I would offer these corrections.  Abigail Carpenter and Daniel Dean were married in 1802, in Cornwall, Orange Co, NY.  This marriage is confirmed in Quaker records: Records from “Rochester Monthly Meeting, Monroe County, New York: Quaker Records” related to Dean family, found on Ancestry.com.

Here is what is stated in the Carpenter Cousins:
606. Abigail Carpenter (Benedict , Benedict , William , Joseph , William ) was born on 19 Apr 1776 in , Westchester, NY. She died on 18 Aug 1865.

[Notes]
Abigail married Daniel Dean about 1788/1790 in ,, NY. Daniel was born about 1767 in ,, NY.

They had the following children.

 1440 F i  Elizabeth Dean was born about 1797 in ,, NY.

1441 F ii  Hannah Dean was born about 1799 in ,, NY.

1442 F iii  Mary Cox Dean Dean was born about 1802 in ,, NY.

1443 M iv  Daniel Dean was born about 1805 in ,, NY.

1444 F v  Phebe T. Dean was born on 11 May 1812 in Cornwall, Orange, NY. She died on 21 Mar 1872.[Notes]

Although Phebe Titus Dean's birthdate is correct ( perhaps because I provided this a couple of years ago in correspondence to either you or Gene Z?), the dates of her siblings are incorrect.  As well, Mary's middle name was Chandler, not Cox; Cox was her married surname.

I do have more information on her siblings, which I'm happy to provide if you think it might be a good idea.

I see that Abigail's husband, Daniel Dean has a given "about" birth date.  I've been searching for his birth date, place and parents for 4 years now, and still haven't found any reliable information.  There have been many unsupported, and some clearly incorrect dates/places/parents for him on Ancestry.com, but a little probing either disproved them.  I've even done autosomal testing with 2 companies now, hoping to turn up a Dean cousin.  I've been corresponding with other Dean researchers, and we have some theories, but nothing solid yet.  So every now and then I check the Carpenter pages to see if Daniel has come into focus!

Oh yes - all the above Dean children were born in Cornwall, Orange, NY, according to Quaker records.

Thanks for making all this information public for researchers like me!

I do have the death certificate of Roxse Carpenter and it states her
father was Levi Carpenter and her mother "Mariah".Of course it does
not have "Mariah's" maiden name.I was wondering if "Mariah" could
have been a first marriage and died when Roxse was born and that
Levi then married Fanny Sutton.Any and all help would really be
appreciated.I have also been  told there are many mistakes in the
"Famous" Amos book and some families were mixed up and the errors
continue.I do not have the book but plan to purchase one. Thanks for
your time and patience-----Joyce
