Benjamin Carpenter of Lenawee Co, MI

For anyone researching this line, I am convinced I found Benjamin's and his wife Elizabeth's newspaper obituaries. The library in Adrian was able to provide me with copies from the Michigan Messenger, Vol II 1894 to 1895 for the date March 3, 1894 which read:
page 1, column 2 -- The death of Mrs. Benjamin Carpenter, aged 82, occurred yesterday morning at her home in Madison Center. The death of her husband, aged 88, is momentarily expected and Mrs. Carpenter remains are being kept that they may be buried together. They have traveled life's pathways for over 60 years. They came from the east and settled in Fairfield and then removed to Madison.

page 3, column 2 -- The death of Benjamin Carpenter of Madison Center occurred last night and he will be buried with his wife. Deceased was 88 years old.

This means that both Benjamin and Elizabeth died on March 2, 1894. Both were buried in the Bradish Cemetery in Lenawee Co.

I descend from their son Abraham and his first wife Emeline Baldwin Packard and have looked for these death dates for years.

9611. James B. Carpenter

He was to be believed to be the spouse of Martha Elizabeth Carpenter who is number 8361 in the Carpenter Memorial. But this does not match census data.

Thanks for the Carpenter information you sent via e-mail. My cousin, Harold
Chapman, (deceased) did a great deal of research on the Carpenters in the
1960's & 70's. His g grandmother was a sister to my grandmother. At that time
we thought Abigail Bennett was immigrant Wm.'s spouse. I have pretty much the
same information you have on the early Carpenters, except i had not heard of
Abigail Searles as a 2nd spouse of Wm. Also, did not know father, Wm. had a
spouse, Alice. I have Abigail Briant baptized 27 may 1604.
I belong to the DAR, but not thru the Carpenters. Joshua would be my patriot
ancestor.
My g grandparents were  Wm. S. and Lydia Older Carpenter. I have information
on my line from them if you are interested. I will be happy to share what I
have.
I wrote a book on my family in 1997-THE FAMILY HISTORY OF LAURA E. HESS AND
WILLIAM C. DEER. It is advertised on the internet at
http://www.hess-deer.astreeet.com/ if you would like to view it. It lists my
surnames in the table of contents.
I have only followed my direct lines. I did not realize so many Carpenters
settled in Lenawee co., MI. I have been there and visited the graves of James
B. and Catherine in the Weston  cememtery. There were other Carpenters buried
there whose names I did not recognize.
