Mrs. Day's house in Seekonk, stands on or very near
where William Carpenter's (No. 18 in the CM)house stood. The cellar of the
house was pointed out to Amos B. Carpenter in 1844 or 1845 by Wooster
Carpenter, Esq., from which the compiler (Amos) took a brick which probably
came out of William Carpenter's (No. 18) chimmey. The cellar hole, as it was
seen then, showed plainly that a house had stood there.
Residence: Sanford, ME. But he died in Seekonk.

Memorial #: 78183162
Bio: The News-Herald. (Hillsboro, Highland Co., Ohio) 1886-1973, September 08, 1910, Image 3 Obituary.Mary Pauline Newton was born in Buckingham county, Va., October 4,1833 and departed this life August 18, 1910, aged 76 years 10 months and 14 days. She emigrated to Ohio In 1837. She was united in marriage to Daniel Carpenter in 1853. To this union were born six sons and four daughters. One son and one daughter died in their youth and her husband in 1895. Five sons, Guthie, Joseph, Dexter, Agee and three daughters, Elizabeth,Martha and Ella, one brother, one sister and many relatives and friends are left to mourn their loss. She united with the M. E. Church at Dunn's Chapel when about 18 years of age. The last years of her life were spent In Allensburg and not being near the church of her choice she transferred her membership to the Christian Union Chapel at Allensburg. She was a true Christian woman. Her religion was exemplified in deeds rather than in words. She had no enemies and was a friend to everyone. Never was a mother more honored and respected by her children. They watched over her continually and tried to full fill her every wish. Early last Thursday morning, when all were entering on the duties of another beautiful day, mother calmly and peacefully bade adieu to the scenes of this world, crossed the river and joined her friends who had gone be fore on the other shore.Life's labor done as sinks the clayLight from its load the spirit fileswhile heaven and earth combine to say,How blest the righteous when she dies."

Subject: information about Solon Carpenter?
Date: Fri, 12 Oct 2001 16:02:59 -0400
Dear Mr. Carpenter:
I seek information about Solon Carpenter (1829-1923) of Seekonk, Masaachusetts. I have the reference from Amos Carpenter _A Geneological History_ (1898). Can you point me to any more recent work that includes this branch?

MORE:
Kind thanks for sending this information about the Solon Carpenter who built my house about 1875. From the land evidence records and the probate records at the Bristol County Courthouse in Taunton, Mass., I can add the
following:
Bristol County Land Evidence vol. 735 page 396:
A real estate transaction of July 7, 1922 reveals that Solon Carpenter owns the home place with his wife Carroline F. S. Carpenter. This identifies the name of his second wife.
Bristol County Probate Court Will Book docket file 50513:
Probate documents dated June 22, 1923, name Davis Carpenter of Brown, New York, as the executor of his late father's estate. The identifies the month and an approximate day of death for Solomon (he died at age 93) and locates Davis Carpenter as living in New York at the time of his father's death. At his father's death Davis Carpetner inherits all of his father's property outright while Caroline Carpenter is given life estate. This reveals that Caroline outlived Solon.
Bristol County Land Evidence vol. 753 page 122:
On September 17, 1924, Davis Carpenter of Bronx, New York, sells the Solon Carpenter farm outside the family. This concludes the ownership of land in Seekonk by that branch of the family.
When I find their gravestones I'll send along photographs.
Yours sincerely, Rob EmlenCENSUS: 1880 United States Census
