One of the sons of Reuben Carpenter wasn't on the document. He was a brother of Lavinia Carpenter Williams. He moved down to TX, near his sister, but hightailed it back north when the war broke out. Jeremiah and Lavinia's sons, Jeremiah and Cyrus served with CO C 20th Texas Calvary during the war. There were a number of boys born in the north that fought with the 20th Texas. Their youngest son, Cyrus Williams, was my ggrandfather. I noticed that you had Jeremiah Bein Williams parents as Jeremiah Williams and Amy Knight. The Jeremiah who married Amy Knight was directly descended from Roger Williams of RI. I almost forgot, the son not listed was Royal Carpenter. My ggrandfather was apparently named after his uncle, Cyrus Carpenter. Cyrus Williams named one of his sons Carpenter Williams.
Thanks,
Roger Williams

Birth: 16 Nov 1800 Vermont, USA
Death: 4 Mar 1880 (aged 79) Darlington, Lafayette County, Wisconsin, USA
Burial: Schwartz Cemetery, Avon, Lafayette County, Wisconsin, USA
Memorial #: 28485627
Bio:
Royal Carpenter was one of five children born to Reuben Carpeter and Anna (Stacey or Rood), in Vermont. The Carpenter family left Vermont for Franklin Co. Ohio around 1805.

Royal married Roxena "Rosey" Thompson in Franklin Co. Ohio on 27 Dec 1819. They had two children before she died - Charles born 1820, and Minerva, born 1822.

Royal married Temperance Ayers in Franklin County, Ohio in 1833. Their six children are: Leander, Gustavus, Mary, Alonzo, Rebecca and Royal Jr.

Royal and Temperance and family left Ohio for Wisconsin in 1846. They also spent some time in Texas, where Royal's nephew resided. A brother may possibly have been in Texas. Royal Carpenter loved to travel, and went to many areas in the south. He would sell some of his Wisconsin land to pay for his trips, and roamed through the southern states. He always returned to Lafayette County, Wisconsin, where he had purchased his farmland and engaged in farming and building. Royal and Temperance raised their family on this farmland in the Darlington area. Royal died in 1880 and the family remained in the Darlington area for many years.

I would love further information on Royal's daughter Minerva. Please contact me if you have further info. Thanks!

PARENTAGE SPECULATED

GRAVE:
William Carpenter
Birth: unknown
Death: 30 Aug 1827 Franklin County, Ohio, USA
Burial: Pioneer Cemetery, Westerville, Franklin County, Ohio, USA
Memorial #: 33032629
Bio: William has no visible marker in the cemetery at this  present time (2010). The cemetery office does not have older records for early burials and is unable to say which plot William is buried in, since I am unable to find a marker.

William may be related to the Reuben and Anna (Rood) Carpenter family who came to Franklin County, Ohio in 1809, from Vermont.  Known children of Reuben and Anna are:

Lucy (1789-1867) who married Thos Folon

Lavinia, b1792 who m Jeremiah Williams in 1821

John, b1795, who m Huldah Tinkham in 1819

Cyrus, b1798, who m Eliza Hunt in 1824

Royal, b1800, who m Roxana Thompson in 1819

Unfortunately, older records from the cemetery have been destroyed and the newer records do not contain info that William is buried here.  The older records DO contain the information that he is buried here.

6459. Nancy Carpenter

GRAVE:  memorial only
Nancy Carpenter Osborn
Birth: 1810 Vermont, USA
Death: 8 Nov 1881 (aged 70–71) Jackson County, Ohio, USA
Burial: Unknown

Memorial #: 106311944
Bio:
Daughter of Nathan Carpenter & Azuba Blodgett.

The following is an extract from "The History of the Rehoboth, Carpenter Family", generation 9 page 392

"Last Saturday evening, Jan. 22,(1881) was the fiftieth anniversary of the marriage of Alonzo Osborne and Nancy Carpenter. A large number of invited guests assembled at the Osborne homestead, and gave themselves up to the enjoyment of the occasion. The company comprised people of all ages, from men and women far past the prime of life to little children just beginning to walk. The rooms were tastefully arranged, above the mantle in the front room were the words, 'Osborne -Carpenter' in large letters below these were 1831-1881' in black and in green moss; below these was the marriage certificate of Mr. and Mrs. Osborne; in one corner of the room was the coat-of-arms of the Carpenters, Mrs. Osborne being a lineal descendant of an old English family. There were portraits of Mr. Osborne's family, and other appropriate decorations.

Jesse Osborne, the oldest son, and the only one now living was present, with a portion of his family. Mary, the youngest child `the baby' now the wife of John Hood, was present with her family. Martha still remains with the old folks. She possesses a good share of artistic genius and some beautiful specimens of her handiwork adorned the walls. Lorin Osborne, whose portrait hung in the room, was one of the finest violinists we ever heard. He has been dead more than a score of years. Lucien, whose portrait hung near, was also a fine instrumental musician. He died many years ago. Then there was the portrait of Orlando. who was the finest male vocal musician, perhaps, whom Jackson ever possessed. He was also a fine violinist. He served in the army during the Rebellion. He died about 1870 or 1871.

Alonzo Osborne looked a very little, if any older than he did twenty years ago. He is the same sprightly, talkative pleasant gentleman that he has always been during our recollection of him, which covers a period of perhaps, twenty-five years. Mrs. Osborne is looking somewhat feeble with age, but is exceedingly gay and light hearted still among her friends. At the party on Sat evening, some friend presented Mrs. Osborne with a pair of gold-framed spectacles adjust them to her eyes, she hastily turned to where Mr. Osborne was standing, with the remark I want to took at him with them first. Some friend laughingly inquired if he looked as sweet to her as he did fifty years ago. Her answer was prompt and emphatic Yes, Just as sweet What a beautiful example of the constancy of the human heart.
The aged couple were the recipients of numerous beautiful presents, among which was a purse of gold, a dollar for each year of their married life. This was presented by Ex-Senator Dugan, in a neat speech
'We like Alonzo Osborne. We like him because he is a good citizen, a good neighbor; we like him because he is a true friend, and a kind parent; we like him, because upon all the great ques affecting the welfare of his country, he has always been found advocating the right; we like him because in his walk and conversation he ever attempts to scatter sunshine about him and to make those happy with whom he is thrown in contact; we like him for many other reasons we might name. And we may add that Mrs. Osborne is a fit companion for such a man.'

Nancy (Carpenter) Osborne, died Nov 1881, the same year as her 50th wedding anniversary.

Nancy Osborn's exact burial date is unknown to me at this time. It could be in Jackson County, Ohio where she lived for at least 21 years.

Alonzo Osborn's exact burial date is unknown to me at this time. It could be in Jackson County, Ohio where he lived for at least 37 years.Family Members
