Bio: Civil War Union Army Officer. He was commissioned as 1st Lieutenant of Company G, 14th Vermont Volunteer Infantry on September 8, 1862. He participated in the July 1863 Battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and was honorably mustered out on July 30, 1862.After the war he served as an officer in the Vermont National Guard, and was elected to the Vermont State Legislature.

There were TWO Darwin J. Carpenters!  One was born in 1803 and married Emmeline Williams on 31 Jan 1826.  The one who was born in 1827 did NOT marry Emmeline Williams as noted in the Carpenter Memorial.  The one born in 1827 had parents John & Polly.

DEATH:  12 Aug 1863 per the Carpenter Memorial.  This is the death date for John Carpenter the father.  This is interesting.  Did they die of the same dates?   Ot is this a typo?  Or did he die in the Civil War?  Many questions!

On one Darwin J. Carpenter - The Carpenter Memorial has parents as John & Polly (Derby) Carpenter.
There was TWO Darwin J. Carpenters!  One was born in 1803 and married Emmeline Williams on 31 Jan 1826.  The one who was born in 1827 did NOT marry Emmeline Williams as noted in the Carpenter Memorial.  The one born in 1827 had parents John & Polly.

DEATH:  12 Aug 1863 per the Carpenter Memorial.  This is the death date for John Carpenter the father.  This does not match this Darwin.
