" Mrs. Amanda Carpenter, 90, died at the Woman's Relief Corps Home in Oxford, Saturday
morning, March 30, 1940. Mrs Carpenter, widow of Stephen H. Carpenter, was born on Carpenter
Hill, the town of Hartford. She was the former member of the Virgil Baptist church.
She has lived in this community, both at the home of her son, Archie Carpenter, and that of her
brother, David Adamy.
Mrs. Carpenter is survived by 3 sons, J. S. Carpenter of Cortland, Artie L. Carpenter of
Canandaigua, and Archie Carpenter; one sister, Mrs. Lucy G McAllister of Penn Yan; one brother,
David Adamy of Michigan; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held at the Perkins funeral home, Tuesday, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Fenton E
Crutchley officiated. Interment will bein Virgil at the convenience of the family."

Virgil, May 24 - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Miller Carpenter died Saturday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Kimmich, at age of 85 years, 6 months and 1 day.
Mrs. Edward Sherman of Dryden, Mrs. Charles Kimmich of Virgil and Mrs. Warren Heffron of Dryden Lake, survive her; also one sister, Mrs. Charles Satterly of Virgil and two brothers, Jerome Miller of Homer and Coy Miller of Ithaca.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon with Rev. Anna Carson of Harford officiating. Burial was made in Virgil cemetery.-The Cortland Democrat, 26 May 1939
