Hello John,
My name is Scott Dorschner and would like to give you information on my
Carpenter line. I wanted to wait until I received the Carpenter CD from the
Carpenter Museum to see what you have on my line.
My ggggrandmother was Maria S. Carpenter (8550 in the Carpenter Memorial)
who was married to Alonzo Locey/Losey -not Cozy- until sometime during the
mid 1850s when they were divorced supposedly over religious differences.
They both remarried with Alonzo moving to Iowa and Maria to Wisconsin where
she eventually died and is buried in Hortonville, Outagamie, Wisconsin, not
Illinois -another Memorial error.
I'll send you a register report on Maria's descendants to give you an
update if you want more on my line.

"abt 1840 when Maria S. was 12, she first married Alonzo Locy/Losey, son of Issac Locy/Losey & Hannah Baker, in Middlebury, Tioga, Pennsylvania. Born abt 1822 in Keeneyville, Tioga, Pennsylvania. Alonzo died on 31 Oct 1887, he was 65. They were divorced."
"abt 1860 when Maria S. was 32, she second married John L. Hill, son of Otis Hill & UNKNOWN UNKNOWN. Born on 10 Jul 1832 in New York. John L. died in New London, Waupaca, Wisconsin on 13 Dec 1907, he was 75."

RE: CARPENTER, Betsy Ann or Rebecca - "Rebecca Anne"
I am a new member of the Carpenter surname researchers. This is my first
message regarding Carpenters. I am searching death information on my great
grandmother. She appears on page 797 in the book, A Genealogical History of
the Rehoboth Branch of the Carpenter Family in America, 1898. It states that
she married Silas HOWARD and died in Illinois. She did not die in Illinois.
She and Silas Howard moved on to Iowa and Nebraska and perhaps MN, SD, MO and
KS before they moved to Nebraska in or before 1890. After my great
grandfather, Silas died in 1906 north of Royal, Antelope County, Nebraska, it
is believed she moved to Washington State and died there 29 Apr 1911 in
Spokane, WA. She may have moved in with a daughter Mrs. Mary Mellick or a
daughter, Mrs. Martha Young near Spokane, WA. No one seems to know for sure
that she did die in Washington. After requesting a death certificate and
waiting three months Olympia states there is no record. Seeking
information to confirm the date and place of death and burial of Betsy Ann or

Subject: HOWARD & CARPENTER BOOKHOWARD & CARPENTER BOOK -
Steve Szabados has written and had published a 444 page book: Silas Howard and Betsey Carpenter - Their Ancestors and Descendants. I have only recently obtained the book and I am impressed with his ability to compile so many of our cousins' pictures and data and his massive research into just 444 pages. There are hundreds of pages of documents, census records, pictures, charts and other items within the dialogue. This work of art should be an excellent addition to the library of any Silas Howard and Betsey Carpenters researchers. Check out: https://www.createspace.com/4412457.Silas Howard and Betsey Carpenter
Their Ancestors and Descendants
Authored by Stephen SzabadosFamily lore believes Silas was a horse trader. Records indicate that he was born in 1823 in New York but his birth record and the names of his parents have not been found. He married Betsey Carpenter in 1849 in Tioga County, Pennsylvania and they had thirteen children as they moved westward with stops in Minnesota and Iowa before they settled for the final time in Antelope County, Nebraska.
Betsey's ancestors have been traced back to the Mayflower. Seven of the Howland, Tilley and Billington ancestors made the voyage with the Puritans. Betsey's Carpenter ancestors arrived in 1638 when William Carpenter settled in Rehoboth, Massachusetts. William is considered the father of "The Family of Heroes." It is estimated that over 300 of his male lineal descendants (230 proven as of August 1996) served America in the Revolutionary War.
The pages in this book cover the information that I have found for Silas, Betsey, their ancestors and their children.

14176. Martin Van Buren Thompson
Martin was on of the prominent and successful farmers of Maine Township, in Outagamie County, Wisconsin. He owned and operated a good farming property of forty acres located on section 5. He came to Wisconsin in 1852 with his parents and settled in Winnebago County, and later moved to Outagamie County. He lived at home with his parents until his enlistment in the Union Army in 1861. He was a member of Company D, First Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry where he served for 2 years until he was discharged due to disability. He was at home for 3 months and recovered and re-enlisted in the Third Wisconsin Cavalry, Company G, which he was connected until the close of the war. He was engaged in frontier duty when the close of the war came. He was discharged on October 27, 1865. He saw some of the bloodiest battles of the entire war and always displayed bravery under fire. Among his engagements mentioned: Perrysville, Stone River, Chattanooga, while he was in the infantry and his services in the cavalry on the frontier included battles with the Indians at Cottonwood, Sand Boot, Plum Creek and Walnut Creek.
After his, return from the war he remained at home until he was thirty-three years of age, and on October 3, 1874, he was married to Miss Esther .Ann Watson, born September 22, 1855, daughter of Thomas and Roxey (Chambers) Watson, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson have had five children: Ella, who married George Diemel, living in Outagamie county and has four children; Meade, who is married and living in this county, having three children; Ira, who is living in Clintonville, Wisconsin, is married and. has two children; Thomas, who is married and has two children, residing in Outagamie county; and Stephen, also residing in this county, has one child. After Mr. Thompson's marriage he purchased eighty acres of wild land near Hortonville, where he lived for four years, and he then sold and moved to Hortonville. In September 1881, he bought the land on which he now lives, then a tract of eighty acres, which he put under cultivation with the exception of ten acres, but later deeded forty acres to his son, for whom he had also built a modern frame residence in 1909. Mr. Thompson's own house was built in 1901, at which time he also erected a large barn, and he has brought his land into an excellent state of cultivation, being engaged in stock raising and general farming. Mr. Thompson is a stanch Republican in his political views, and he has served for ten or twelve year as a member of the board of supervisors. From "History of Outagamie County" page 935
