E. A. CARPENTER, Well Known Lawyer and Former Assemblyman Passes Away at Sag Harbor, HEART DISEASE THE CAUSE.
Sag Harbor, I., Aug. 7-Everett A. ' Carpenter died late Saturday night. He was 64 year old. Mr. Carpenter had been failing in health for the past few week's, and hits ire was despaired of several times. Saturday night was very warm, and Mr. Carpenter went down stairs to the parlor and 'sat in a reclining chair. His daughters noticed that he appeared weak and faint and that his head had fallen to one side. Neighborly assistance 'as summoned, but before medical aid arrived ,Mr. Carpenter had breathed his last. Heart disease was the immediate cause of death. Everett A. Carpenter was born in Bristol County, Mass„ July 6, 1835. His father, Benoni Carpenter, was the first free soil candidate for Senator from Bristol County and was later returned. from Providence County, is R. I. Mr. Carpenter was graduated from Brown University in 1854, being a member of the last class which was taught by Francis Wayland. On completing his university course he taught for a time, and studied law, and was admitted to the bar on reaching his majority. lie moved to Sag Harbor early in life and always took an active part in politics and educational matter;. He was at one time Assiitant United States Assessor for Suffolk County, and for eight years was chairman of the Republican County Committee. In 1879 he was elected to the Assembly. He was re-elected in 1880 and was made chairman of the committee on cities. As a lawyer Mr. Carpenter had a high reputation. Mr. Carpenter took an active interest in all local matters. He served as chief of the fire department for twenty years, as president of the Board of Education, and for twenty-five years was the attorney of the Sag Harbor Savings Bank, which position he held until one year age. Mr. Carpenter married a daughter of the late Captain Barney Green of Southampton. He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Maria Gleason of Lenox avenue, New York, and Miss . Addle Carpenter, residing in Sag Harbor. He also leaves a brother, Frank H. Carpenter, a member of the Union League Club of Manhattan. before graduating on account of trouble with his eyesight. He
then followed the profession of civil engineering and was
engaged mainly in railroad work. After being engaged in this
professional work for several years In many parts of the
country, east and west, he became connected with the C. M. & St.
P. railway, remaining with that company for 10 years, rising to

I am relatively new to genealogical research. My wife and I have been active now for about 1 and 1/2 years. Recently I ran across the Carpenter DNA web page and ordered the Carpenter CD 2001 from the Carpenter Museum. It is a massive accomplishment which has been extremely helpful in my work.
While reviewing the branch of the Carpenter family that I am related to, I noticed that the chain stops going forward in time just where my family line intersects with the data on the CD as I am descended from the female line without the name Carpenter.
