Herman Dale Barker was born at Kelly, Kansas, Oct. 10, 1885, the son of Samuel and Lucinda (McGehee) Barker. He grew to manhood four miles south of Bern, Kansas and was a foreman at the brick yards in Seneca for 25 years.
On Sept. 17, 1905 he was married to Grace Corum in St. Joseph, MO., to this union one son, James now of Beatrice, NE was born.
On Oct. 23, 1925, he married May Carpenter of Oneida, KS. Besides his wife and son, James, he is survived by 3 grandsons, James, Robert and Jackie Barker; 2 granddaughters, Mrs. James Tucker and Mrs. Norman Gilbert, and 1 great-grandson Tommy Gilbert, all of Beatrice; 2 brothers, Louis A. Barker of Humboldt and August Barker of Venice, CA.; 2 sisters, Mrs. Ruth Riggs of Kimberly, ID and Mrs. June Hinkle of Topeka. Two brothers, Thomas and William, preceded him in death.
He went to Nebraska in 1939 and farmed near Humboldt until his death, July 11, 1951 at the age of 65 years, 8 months and two days.
