1850 U.S.Census, Springwater, Livingston, NY. Mortimer is age 7 and in the home of his parents, John and Phebe Jones.

Believe he was married in NY, or Ohio as his wife was from Ohio.  He married about the time his parents came to MI, so he could have married in NY, Ohio, or MI.

1870 U.S. Census, Orangeville, Barry, MI., Film 0552160 viewed in FHL, SLC, Utah   76/76.  Jones,  Mortimer,  26, b. NY;  Mary, wife,  25, b. Ohio;  Ida, 5,  b. MI.

1884 U.S. Census, Orangeville, Barry, MI. Film 915281, viewed in FHL, SLC, Utah,   130/131 Mortimer T. Jones, 40, b. NY, parents b. NY; Mary A., 39, wife, b. Ohio, parents both NH; Amy L., 9, daughter; Bion Danier (Damon), 22, male; Ida M., 18, female (daughter of Mortimer and Mary) and child, 4/12, male, but no name and John Jones Jr., 27, male, single.  (John Jr. was Mortimer's brother).

1894 Michigan State Census, Prairieville, Barry, MI. Film 915285, viewed at FHL, SLC, Utah.   230/271. Mortimer was 51 yrs. old.  He said his father was b. NY and his mother was b. RI.  That would have been his grandmother for that was true of Phebe McNair, as she was b. RI, who married Robert Carpenter, but Mortimer's mother Phebe was b. in NY as she was almost the youngest of the family and all of Robert and Phebe Carpenter's family were born in NY.  Mary, age 50, Mortimer's wife, said her parents were b. in New Hampshire.  They also stated they had had 2 children and both were still living.  Since Mortimer was 51 and Mary 50, this would likely to have been all of their children. (Ida M. & Amy L.  Ida married Bion Damon.) Mortimer said he had been in the state 29 years which means he came to MI in 1865 when his parents came.  His first child was b. abt. 1865, so he could have married before, or during the journey.

Calvin Loomis Carpenter family reunions in Athen, Michigan had a sign in sheet for relatives, and in 1895 Mortimer,  & Mary Jones and Ida Damon came to that reunion.  Mortimer was 52 and from Prairieville, Mary was 51 and Ida was 28(not to clear, but this would be the right age as she was 18 in 1884).  Apparently this was a reunion when a lot of first cousins made an effort to be at this reunion.  Fernando, son of Nathaniel was there as well and some even from NY.  Copy of reunion notes in possession of Donna H. Hellewell, 231 Bowen Ave., Aptos, CA, and with others in Michigan.

1900 U.S. Census, Orangeville, Prairieville Area, Barry, MI.  Mortimer b. Sept 1843 is 56, married 35 years and his wife Mary b. July 1844, is 55.

Henry Clark Rogers

1850 U.S. Census, Athens, Calhoun, MI. Film 014808 Household 967/990

1860 U.S. Census, Athens, Calhoun, MI. Film 803539, household 2056/1871. Henry Rogers is 18 male, b. MI in the home of his father Southman (Southmayd) Rogers age 40 b. NY, and Catherine 36 b. NY (Step-mother) and Leander his brother age 16, and Laura, his sister age 13. There is also a Jane Dockstader age 15 in the home (Last name of Jane extremely hard to read).  Possibly Catherine's child by a former marriage, as she is listed as Catherine Keller, and formerly Mrs. Henry Dockstader when Southmayd (Southman in this census) remarried.

Marriage Records of Barry  Film 108319(?) Book C-15. Witness to their marriage in 1868 were Abba Wilson of Orangeville. Possibly Rowena's sister's, (Lydia's), husband, and Lizzie White maybe a relative too.  Also Joshua White is named, who may have performed the marriage. If so, Lizzie White may have been his wife. Henry was age 26 at time of marriage and Rowena was 21.  Rowena gave her birthplace as Livingston, MI, but it was Livingston, NY, as on all other Census it is NY.  Rowena's parents, John and Phebe Carpenter Jones did not come to MI until after 1857 because Phebe signed off when the Carpenter family farm was sold at that time in Ontario  NY ( Archives Building).   When John said how long he had been in MI, on the 1894 Census, it was 29 years, so this would be about 1865.

Roger's father are brothers, and Margaret is a sister to Rowena's mother Phebe Carpenter Jones.

He is buried on one side of his father and Myrtie on the other side of his mother.  Cem. records show them from different towns (but that would be possible since they died 7 years apart), and Henry C. and Rowena only had sons.  But this could be another son's wife, so further research needs to be done here.  John was listed as of Otsego, MI.  He was 79 at time of death.

Contact was made with Ralph J. Lake, 727 Danaher St. Ludington, Mich. 49431, Phone 616-843-8081.

Walter Glen Knoch, Cedar Springs, Mich. is supposed to have additional information according to Ralph J. Lake.  We drove to Mr. Knoch's home and he gave us 32 pages of the descendants of Melvin Duane Jones and his first wife, Eva May Moore.  To be included in this record.

A death record was found in Antrium  for Estelle's brother Melvin D. Jones, as #482 in Lake View Cem., so he probably lived in Antrium  with his sister Estelle Jones New, and brother William L. Jones, or close to her.  His other brother William L. Jones was  enumerated on the 1900 and 1910 census with George E. New and Estelle Jones New.  We need to search the Census in that area for him now that we know he was there.  We had  little information on him, until we met Mr. Knoch.

17052. Estelle Harriet Jones

1870 U.S.Census, Prairieville, Barry, MI.  Estelle is 8 yrs. old and in the home of her parents.

Marriage Records of Barry  MI.  Film 1008319, George E. New and Estelle Jones are married in 1879.  George E. New was the son of George New and Martha Rogers.  Estelle was the daughter of John and Phebe Carpenter Jones. Estelle Jones and her husband George E. New were not related, although it might appear to be the case, because George E. New's mother, Martha Rogers was by Anthony's first wife Maria Reed, and not Estelle's Aunt Margaret Carpenter Rogers who raised George's mother.  Estelle Jones was a dau to Margaret Carpenter Rogers' sister Phebe Carpenter Jones (Her last child). At first glance it would look like Margaret Carpenter Rogers' grandson, married her niece, but George E. was her step-grandson, and no blood relationship existed.

1900 U.S. Census, Kearney, Antrium, MI, George E. is 45 yrs. old, Estelle H., his wife is 38. William L. Jones, b. 3 Aug 1842, age 32, b. NY, was in their home. William was Estelle's brother.

1910 U.S. Census, Antrium, MI, Film:  1370929,  Soundex film 004-0010-0234 & 35. George E. is 55, Estelle is 48, and George E. states they have been married for 30 years. They had 1 child b. 28 Mar 1890, adopted,  who was 20 in 1910. Her name was Leah M. New b. IL. William L. Jones, brother-in-law (to head of household) age 64 was in George E. and Estelle's home in 1910. William and Estelle are brother and sister. (A death record was found in Antrium Co. for Estelle's brother Melvin D. Jones, as #482 in Lake View Cem., so he probably also lived in this area, but was not enumerated on the census.  This should be researched further to see if he married or had a family.

H Estelle Jones is on some records rather than Estelle H.
