ESTIMATED BIRTH-PARENTS: "Carpenters of the South", SLC FHL 929.273 C225ctl, entitled "John of Monongalia Cny WV," page 2, prepared in 1990 by Terry L. Carpenter, Memphis, Tennessee.  "Ashmond Carpenter Jr., born c 1838, no further information."  The author questioned if their were other children in this family.  NOTE: This was probably "Ashman, Jr."  C-3, #1 in the files of Janet Gesas Hornick, Englewood, Colorado.

POSSIBLE SECOND MARRIAGE: "Marion County, West Virginia Marriages; 1863-1900"; Ancestry.com: "Oiven McNamorron to Clarrissa Jane Carpenter 10 Nov 1893, Marion, WV."  QUESTION: Could that be Oliver?  Ann McKy, mariahmcky@hotmail.com, wrote on 5 Oct 2001: "Hi Jan, I have looked under Mcnamorron in my Marion Cty Marriages which go through 1899 and I see no Clarissa Mcnamorron listed which tells me that she was not remarried at that time or she was overlooked by the author. I saw her listed as Clarissa Carpenter when she married Mundel and I would assume she would be listed as Clarissa McNamorron when and if she got married prior to 1900 census. If he were dead, she was only 55 years old in 1900 and it  would be likely she would get married again. Regardless, she would not have any children so it will not be a problem. My opinion, for what its worth, is that it is highly unlikely that this is "our" Clarissa.  NOTE: A Clarissa Vincent married James T. Hawkins on 11 June 1876 in Marion County, also.

The 17th Infantry Regiment was a Regiment organized in September, 1864; the unit was attached to Reserve Division, District of Harper’s Ferry, W. Va.-- later it was moved to Clarksburg, W.
