REPLY:
Hello Robin,
The John Carpenter appears to be RIN 21082 in the CE CD 2001.  He was born 6 Feb 1796 in Minisink, Orange, NY.
His son Levi Carpenter-21099 is listed in the 1870 Census for Lumberland, Sullvan, NY.  His father is Benjamin Carpenter-12760 and is number 309 in the Carpenter Memorial.  Page 84.  His family is on page 156 (#134).  His grandfather is Col. Solomon Carpenter-4738 who is Number 75 in the Carpenter Memorial on Page 61.
The above John Carpenter-21082 had a brother named James b. 6 April 1805 in Minisink.  He would have been 11 in 1816.
The above John Carpenter-21082 had an Uncle James Carpenter-12759 b. 1752 in Goshen, Orange, NY d. April 1817.
(NOTE:  This would match with, "James was also assessed in 1814, but not in 1818."
James Carpenter-12759 had a son named James Carpenter-21074 b. 1788 in Goshen, Orange, NY but nothing more is known about him.
I found only 1 of Col. Solomon Carpenter's descendants named Joesph that even came close to being alive at the right time.  This is Joseph S. Carpenter-23416 b. 19 May 1815 in Amity, Orange, NY who was son of Solomon Carpenter-23412 b. 24 March 1768.

OTHER POSSIBILES Joseph Carpenters  ...
I have a Joseph Carpenter-26996 b. abt 1776 in Newburgh, Orange, NY who is Number 331 in the book "The Carpenter Family in America" by Daniel H. Carpenter, 1901.No family listed.   Probably settled in Palmyra, NY.

I have a Joseph Carpenter-27042 b. abt 1765 in Newburgh, Orange, NY who is Number 333 in the book "The Carpenter Family in America" by Daniel H. Carpenter, 1901.  No family listed.  He died in New York City, unmarried.

I have a Joseph Carpenter-49408 b. 15 Dec 1790 in Goshen, Orange, NY.  E-MAIL: Tue, 27 Jun 2000 From: "Marcia Buffett" To: "John R. Carpenter" CC: "Ken Warkentine"
Dear John and Ken:
Do either of you have anything on a Joseph C. Carpenter of Northville? He had a daughter Libbie who was married on March 31, 1880 to Harmon Fisher a barber in Northville. Thanks, Marcia
NOTE: This Joseph had a sister named Rebecca whose first husband died in Northville.  Was the Joseph C. above a descendant of this Joseph?

I have a Joseph Carpenter-88893 b. 30 Sep 1783 in Chester, Orange, NY d. 21 May 1829 in Goshen, Orange, NY. He was the son of Jesse Carpenter-2688 who was Number 340 in the Carpenter Memorial on page 88.

I hope this helps.

The CM has Wesfall as spouse and the bible record lists only Catherine
Westbrook as spouse. Westfall seems in error.
The death date given as 17 Dec. 1828 belongs to the nephew named Benjamin.

Catherine Westbrook

NAME; Westfall in the CM and Westbrook in the bible record.
Her first name is spelled as both Catherine then Katherine in the bible record.
Katherine Westbrook, wife of Benjamin Carpenter, was born 31st of ____ (We omitted to copy month ) 1807 - the Church record says July.
On her death the bible record lists it as: Cateham (Katherine) Carpenter died Nov. 13, 1876.

1508. Nehemiah Carpenter

Number 855 in the Carpenter Memorial.  Page 150.
Family on page 271 (# 306).

DEATH:He was buried on the farm of his son Vilet, which now the center of
East Syracuse.  His remains were moved to the burying ground of Callamer.
He is recognized as a veteran of the Revolution.

From W. M. Carpenter of Chicago (in the 1880s): "At the outbreak of the
Revolutionary War Nehemiah was living at home on Long Island.  He enlisted
several times, his first service, being we think, under General Putnam in the
Battle of Long Island: It is not known whether or not he went directly from LI
to Dutchess county.  The family name of this branch is said to have been
Nehemiah's.  After the war he removed to Dutchess county, where his son William
was born in 1806; he moved to Manlius, Onondaga county in 1816, which shows
that the family were born in Dutchess county.  There is no doubt but what he is
the great grandson of John who settled in Jamacia.  His mother was Elizabeth
Van Vilet: it is fair to assume that this the correct way of spelling the name,
although her grandson spelled it Vleat, but it is written in the family Bible
"Vilet.""

in America." Also known as the Carpenter Memorial By Amos B. Carpenter, 1898.

E-MAIL: Sat, 8 Apr 2000 From: "fdeweber"
Dear John,
I hope that you can help me.  I am researching my 4th-great grandfather Henry
Carpenter.
The following information about Henry was taken from the book "History of
DuPage County".   Henry
Carpenter native of Washington County, New York.  Born February 22, 1810, died
in DuPage County,
Illinois 1891.  He married Martha Blanchard in Orleans County, New York,
October 14, 1832.  She was a
native of Whitehall, New York.  Her parents were Ahimaaz Blanchard and Mary
(Tolford)
Blanchard. They moved to Downers Grove, DuPage County, Illinois in 1840.
Henry and Martha had a
son Walter Carpenter, born in NY Nov. 05, 1833, died 1856 in Chicago.  They had
two other children,
both were born in Illinois.  William, 1842, died young, and Martha J. born 1845
( my line).  Henry's
parents were William Carpenter, a native of Westchester County, NY.  He died in
Herkimer County, NY
in 1822.  William married Lois Austin, a native of Saratoga County, NY.  She
died in 1814.  I was hoping
that you might have information on William's Ancestry.  If  I can link Henry to
the "Rehoboth" line, I
would be happy to provide you with the information on Henry's descendants.
Henry was a very
prominent man in DuPage County.  I want to thank you for any assistance that
you can give me.  Your
2000AD CD is going to be a fanastic research tool for a lot of people.  Again
Thank you. Deborah Weber 3208 Mt. Olive-Pt. Isabel Rd. Bethel, Ohio 45106
fdeweber@msn.com

NOTE: He could not have been born in Downer's Grove.  The first child
born there was my 4th great grandfather,
(Henry Carpenter's son-in-law ) Eugene Farrar.  He was born on June 24, 1835.
They were the first
complete family in Downer's Grove. Stanley/Farrar
Downer's Grove 1832-1982, Dunham Montrew   Published by Heritage Festival Task
Force of Downer's
Grove, Illinois 1982 - Also I confirmed this information in a telephone
conversation with the historian at
the Downer's Grove Museum on April 13, 2000.
