Group 3 - Descendants of William Carpenter-98-
Father of William Carpenter-584 (b. abt 1605)

Notes

32922. Glen Putnam

GLEN died at age 19.

24466. James Ward Onderdonk

JAMES lived at Eagle Harbor in 1886 as letters of that date indicate he was
interested in retrieving a reputed CARPENTER family fortune in England; this
old tale is not based upon fact and although many others joined an effort to
obtain this fortune, no proof of its existance could be found.

Fannie Gould

Fannie was a daughter of JOHN GOULD.

32923. John G. Onderdonk

Middle name may be "GOULD".

24475. Josephine Cornilia Carpenter

Number 633-5 in the Timothy Carpenter book.
Buried in grave 6, Lot 2, block 73 of Section "N" of the Prairie Home Cemetery.
Husband is buried in the same lot.  The grave monument gives his death date as
1863 (probably in error).  This date is in consonance with a separate record
that Josephine was a widow at the age of 21-22, but is not in consonance with
the birthdates of their children.  NOTE: Information suggests that Josephine
was married twice, and she was a widow when she married Frank Gibbs.

Josephine (Carpenter) Gibbs was residing in Spokane, WA, Aug. 8, 1908 when she,
her sister Ida of Omaha, Neb., and brother Albert of Des Moines, IA conveyed
lost 59, section 32 in Forest Hill Cemetery, Madison, WI.  They also authorized
removal of the remains of a Mrs. Carpenter from that plot to a single grave in
Lot 93, section 23.  Those remains probably were those of either their mother
Emeline or their grandmother Annis, who resided at the time of her death with
their father, Stephen, who had first purchased the conveyed plot.

BIRTH: The Vital Statistics Section in Spokane records Josephine's birth as in
1843, but no place is given.  Cemetery records indicate birth Aug. 21, 1842 at
Green Bay, WI.  The compilier of the above record uses Aug. 19, 1842 date and
Ashville, NY, as the place, going by what was recorded by her father.
The 1860 census lists her age as 16 (3rd Ward, Madison, WI).

Frank Sylvester Gibbs

Gravestone has death date of 1863.  But this is not consistent with two
children born after 1863 (1866 & 1868).
Frank probably was a brother or cousin to his wife's first husband.  His name
is not known.  See wife's notes.

32927. Madeline Gibbs

Madeline had at least three children: 1) Madeline who married William
Marshall, 2) Josephine who married a Carter, and 3) Virginia who married E.
Miles Barrett.

24477. Albert Welk "Alb" Carpenter

Number 635-5 in the Timothy Carpenter book.
Buried in lot 155, block 16 of the Glendale cemetery.
Albert's death certificate has his year of birth as 1845; his father recorded
it as 1846.  He was publisher of "The Patriot" at Carthage, IL.
Funeral arrangements for Albert and Sarah were by Dunn Funeral Home of Des
Moines, IA.

Sarah Elizabeth Durand

Buried in lot 155, block 16 of the Glendale cemetery.
One record has her as Sarah Eliza.

32930. William Dale Carpenter

Number 1088-6 in the Timothy Carpenter book.

24478. Ida Emiline Carpenter

Number 636-5 in the Timothy Carpenter book.
Ida and George had no issue.  Ida was living in Omaha, Neb. in 1908 when she
conveyed a plot in Forest Hill Cemetery. See sister's notes.
Ida is mentioned in the 1860 census of Madison, WI, which was taken 9 June
1860.
The NAILE name is recorded with various spellings.  An old stock certificate
transferred to the compiler of the above record by courtesy of Stephen Decatur
Carpenter 2nd, a grandson of Stephen, spells it as herein recorded; the stock
was being transferred from Stephen to his daughter Ida.

Hi,
I was just looking at your website and I thought I would share the information that I have.
I am related to the Carpenters through Emmett S. Carpenter born in 1845. He married Lydia Baker in 1869. According to her obit, Emmett died in 1923, it did not give the location. Lydia died in Wells county, Indiana in 1936. At some point the family moved to River Falls, WI.
Nellie was born April 2, 1887, she married Clayton Maxwell in 1918 in Whitefish, MT and died in 1963. She was my great-grandmother.
Henrietta died in 1973.
Nellie had 5 children, one was still born.
Robert William Maxwell (1919-1996) of Whitefish, MT
John Edward Maxwell (1992-1994) died in New Jersey
Jean Maxwell Groth (1929-1994) died in Washington
Jessie Maxwell Campbell (1926-1964) died due to illness in Portland, OR.
Have a good day!
Rachel Richards
