I’m overwhelmed with gratitude. This is what I had but I wanted to be very sure I wasn’t off on the wrong track before sharing with the family. Thank you so very much for sharing this, John R.  I can proceed with confidence and finish a promise I made to my sister before she died 2 years ago.

Nice to “meet” you, John of New Hampshire. Kindness abounds.

I find it interesting how the Carpenters migrated to different states.  Earl Elijah joined the Masons along the way as he traveled by horseback from Harmony, Chautauqua, NY to Texas.  It took some years for the Farmersville chapter to take him in as a member. They probably didn’t know what to think about a New Yorker being in their midst.  He spent some time in Missouri where there are quite a few Carpenters, also from New York. I’ve not tackled that branch, yet, but I believe they are mentioned in the Amos Carpenter book.

Thanks, again, and a wish for a safe and healthy 2021.

24496. Isaac Devant Carpenter

Number 654-5 in the Timothy Carpenter book.
This Isaac was referred to as "Levant" in the 1850 Panama census.  He is also
listed in a 1861 school list.  In a letter, his father addressed to his brother
Isaac from Tecumseh, OK Territory dated Jan. 31, 1897, Abner stated his
son Isaac was then residing at Telvride, Colorado, where he was a construction
superintendent for a mining company at a $2,000.00 a year salary.  Also he had
built a 5,000 foot long tramway which raised 2,000 feet to the mine.
It is recorded that one child's name was Edna, that in 1897 the eldest daughter
was deceased, and that four other children were living.
Arthur (1106) records that one child of Isaac's, a son, was an attorney at
Cherokee in the OK Territory.
