Oct 12, 1922.  Fred Kanouse was born 57 years ago in York Twp.. . .He lived in Mich. until 3 yrs. ago in June.  His health having failed him, he went west and was in a sanitarium in Colorado Springs from June until the first of Oct. His wife and daughter, Miss Ruby, went went and settled in Denver where he remained there until  June 1, 1922. . .He was at the home of his daughter Mrs. Edward Knight in Ann Arbor . . .where he passed away Oct 6,1922. . .Surviving are his wife, two daughters. Mrs. Walter Stagmeyer of Jackson and Mrs. Edward Kinght of Ann Arbor,(One daughter was named Ruby)  three grandchildren, his father Walter Kanouse, two brothers, Oscar and Dorrance, of Detroit." In Peter Fred Kanouse's obituary it said he was survived by a daughter Mrs. Edward Knight of Ann Arbor.  Maybe this Edward Knight was the one in the 1920 U. S. Census, Michigan, Washtenaw County, City of Ann  Arbor 5 Jan 1920, E. D. 132, sheet 4, line 46, Household 99/100, Heusel, Frank age 25 Md., Ruth, Wife, 26 Md.; Knight, Edward, bro-in-law 24 Single, Mail Clerk Railroad.  They lived at 1040 W. Liberty Street  Further research is needed.

He was listed as Dorrance at his brother, Fred's, obituary in the Saline Observer, Oct 12, 1922.  Dorrance was from Detroit.  In another record his name was spelled Donaner.

NY.

Elwood was also enumerated on the state census of 1894 in the home of William and Mary A. Jackson  (probably his Uncle) of the Village of Saline.  He was age 25.   His cousin Donnaner (or Dorence) Kanouse 21 was also there. They were listed as boarders.

Saline Observer, Thurs. July 13, 1911, told of an accident he had with his horse, and another from a hay loft a few years earlier caused sixteen fractures and was unconscious for 3 days.  The acticle said, "It will be money in Elwood's pocket if he will take the old brute (colt) into a ten-acre field, fill him with dynamite, attach a long fuse, set a match to it, then make his escape."

1918 "Saline Observer" THURS. JAN 3, 1918, had an article about a shower for Miss Edna Rogers by Mr. & Mrs. Jacob Burkhardt.  Also Oscar Kanouse of Detroit was there to visit his brother Fred, then went on to say Miss Edna Rogers, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. E. C. Rogers of Lodi, and Mr. William C. Burkhardt, son of Mr. & Mrs. Jacob Burkhardt were married on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 1918.  . . .after the ceremony Mr. & Mrs. Jacob Burkhardt and Mr. & Mrs. John Finkbeiner went to the bride's parent's home for an "elaborate" supper.  Bride and groom were to reside with his parents.  (E. C. Rogers is Elwood Clark Rogers, son of Nancy Carpenter Rogers and Clark Rogers)

Newspaper article in Scrapbook at Bristol, Ontario, NY, Town Hall, Book 19, page 159.  "The marriage of Carlton George McMillan and Miss Jennie L. Pierce took place at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. & Mrs. R. Melvin Pierce, Cheshire Road, Wednesday afternoon, at 5:30 o'clock.  Rev. C. Clarence Baker performed the ceremony in the presence of 80 relatives and friends.  The house was profusely decorated with crepe paper and chrysanthemums to carry out the color scheme of yellow and white.  The bride wore a gown of white crepe silk trimmed and carried white carnations.  Mrs. James E. Haire played the wedding music.  Dinner was served following the ceremony.  The couple left during the evening for a southern trip after which they will reside on the Holcomb road.  The bride's going away gown was blue silvertone with taupe hat.  Prenuptial events were a dinner by the employees of the Canandaigua Dry Good Company at the Canandaigua hotel; a variety shower given by Mrs. James K. Haire, and Mrs. Clare Case, at the home of Mrs. Haire; a kitchen shower by Mrs. George Sangster and a variety shower by Mrs. Roy Hurlbutt..
