27283. Jessie Maria Adams

(Oak Ridge Cemetery)

The following is related by Henry A. Mosher: Jessie  Maria Adams
was a tall (6ft) handsome lady, always slender in her younger years
and heavier after menopause.  She was a delightful, friendly person,
loved and admired by everyone who knew her.  She was completely
devoted to her husband and boys and made our home a happy home.  Pop
and Mom were both very supportive of their boys, but did not hesitate
to say "no" when we were out of line, and were full of encouragement
when that was indicated. Mom was quite musical.  She encouraged me to
sing, and we spent many evenings at the piano singing ballads that
were popular at the time, and also music that Uncle Charles and Aunt
Margaret sang, (also music the Wallace boys - Jim, Oliver and Bob
sang).  We have lots of this "sheet music" to this day and Nancy and I
go over it occasionally.  I hope David Mosher will stop by and try it
some day.  Jessie Mosher was a great letter writer, long newsy letters
that she sent frequently to us boys when we were away at school.  If
she didn't have time for a letter she would use a "penny post card"
and could cram an amazing lot of message on that little card.  Mom had
a very high blood pressure in her latter years and Dr. Culver often
kept her at bed rest for several days.  A massive stroke killed her in
an hours time in 1936.  She was a wonderful mother.

35917. Frederic Adams Mosher

(Oak Ridge Cemetery)

Frederic died of a bowel obstruction due to an intussusception (easily
corrected nowadays).

27284. Minnie Gertrude Adams

(Oak Ridge Cemetery)

35919. son Houston

(Oak Ridge Cemetery)

He died very young.

27285. Helen Mae Adams

(Oak Ridge Cemetery)

27286. Charles Henry Adams

Charles Adams disappointed Henry and Augusta Adams by his decision not
to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to become an
engineer and follow his father's career in the Sandwich Manufacturing
Company.  Not until he was waiting for the train which was to take him
to Oberlin and the Conservatory of Music, did his parents forgive him
for his decision. In Oberlin he met another talented musician,
"Maggie" Jones, as he called her.  She came from Janesville, Wisconsin
where her Welsh father, Morris David Jones, and Norwegian mother,
Joanna Hanson Jones taught violin and piano respectively at the School
for the Blind.  Charles majored in Voice, Margaret in Piano with a
minor in Voice, which she, too, taught and they were much in demand as
solo performers and teachers.  Margaret was also the soprano soloist
at Old Stone Church in Cleveland for a number of years.
They were graduated in 1895 and the following year after their
marriage taught together in Albion, MI, where Charles established the
summer music school at Bay View, MI, and at Cornell, at Mt. Vernon,
Iowa where Charles established the Spring Festival which is still in
existence almost 100 years later.  They were asked to return to
Oberlin to teach in the early 1900s.  Their sabbatical leaves gave
them the opportunity to study in Berlin, Lepzig and Paris.  Charles
retired from the Conservatory in 1936 and Margaret four years later.
Charles enjoyed directing several church choirs and the Musical Union,
was active in The First Church of Oberlin (Congregational) and town
affairs.
