"George Telford Ross was born on a farm in Monongalia County, West Virginia, which is located on the north edge of the state near the S W corner of Pennsylvania, south of Pittsburg and lies in the Monongahila River valley. His mother and father divorced and when he was three he and his father left for Canton, Ohio where they lived for twenty years. They then moved to the Coloma area of Carroll County, MO. There he met and married Anna Belle Mc Laury. His father, Stephen M., owned and operated a large sawmill and a grain mill. G. T. farmed and helped with the mills until his father died. In this period their nine children were born. He then moved to Tina, MO. They lived there until 1906. Then they moved to Cushing, OK. for a year then he bought 160 acres in western Logan County, SW of Guthrie,which at that time was the state capitol. He built a large two story home with the colonial two story columns across the front. The farm lies in the Cimmaron river valley and is very rich wheat land. When oil was discovered in that area, he refused to let them drill on his land. He vouched he was a farmer and that oil wells had no place on a good farm and he stood pat on that as long as he owned the farm. In 1919 he turned the farm over to son Leonard, moved into Guthrie, and at some later date Leonard bought the farm. In 1921 Anna Belle died. He, and unmarried daughter Arzula, lived out the remainder of their lives at the Guthrie home. Arzula died May 30, 1949 and he a day later. A double funeral was held at the First Presbyterisn Church of Guthrie. The three are burried in Summit View Cemetery. He was 98 years of age.
"My mother Amy Belle and older brother Herbert had both married while in MO. and stayed behind when the rest moved to OK so I didn't get to see my grandfather often and never knew my grandmother. When I was around six, my parents remodeled
and added on to our farm home and Grandpa came up and stayed with us and helped on the project. He was a skilled finish carpenter and handled all the trim work and built the built-in cabinets in the kitchen; a novelty for a farm home in that area. That summer was a joyous time for me and I learned to love my grandfather. He would bring four or five of the aunts, unkles and cousins along and come to MO nearly every summer for a couple of weeks to visit old friends and relatives. I looked foreward to that visit more than Christmas because it was a whole series of reunion dinners and fun. I can't say if everyone loved him as much as I did but one thing I can say is that all who knew him had the highest respect for him.[ForsytheM(2).ftw]"All of the Ross' were and are extremely religious and the tradition of family bible reading and prayer circle were followed on a daily basis. As the men were known for their faith and honesty, the women were just as well known for their wonderful home cooking and religious followings.
"The home in Tina where they lived became the lifelong home of Ross and Irene Forsythe. It remained a beautiful home and was built in such a manner that it never looked old or out of date. Ross was a grandson of George Telford and Anna Belle. (The son of Arthur Raymond Forsythe and Amy Belle Ross)
"In 1906 the family all moved from Tina, Mo. to Cushing, OK. After a year they purchased land in western Logan County, OK. then in 1919 they moved to Guthrie, OK. where Geo. T. and Anna Belle lived till their deaths. Their Guthrie home was at 1502 W. Mansur Street. George also built two other homes on the 1400 block of West Mansur during his life time.

FAIRMONT — Mary Carpenter Jordan, 100, of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of Fairmont, passed away Thursday (Oct. 13, 2011).
Mary was born Aug. 26, 1911, to the late David and Maggie Morris Carpenter of Bunner Ridge.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Walter Jordan; brothers, Herschel and Denzil Carpenter; and sisters, Bertha Carpenter, Enid Neel, Virginia Carpenter and Ramah Timms.
Mary was a longtime member of the Baptist Temple in Fairmont and worked tirelessly for her church and various civic and service organizations. She worked for several years at Jones Department Store. Mary took exceptional pride in maintaining a place filled with home-preserved foods, baked goods, handmade quilts and needlepoint pieces. She particularly enjoyed tending to her gardens and showcasing her beautiful flowers. In addition to traveling throughout the United States and Canada, she especially enjoyed her trips to Europe, China and Australia.
Mary is survived by two sons, Edwin Jordan and his wife Suzy of Parkersburg, and David Jordan and his wife Teresa of West Columbia, S.C.; and one daughter, Mary Ann Hettich and her husband Martin of Matthews, N.C.
Other survivors include four cherished grandchildren, Bryan and his wife Jean of Burlington, Ky., Jennifer Jordan of Gahanna, Ohio, Allison Merchant and husband Lew of West Columbia, S.C., and Adam Jordan and his wife Laura of Columbia, S.C. She was blessed with 10 great-grandchildren, Samantha, Kathryn, Lauren and Joseph Jordan, Casey "C.J." Jordan, Tradd, Abigail and Taylor Merchant, and Emily Kate and Annalee Jordan.
Memorials may be made to the Baptist Temple, 430 Morgantown Ave., Fairmont, WV 26554.
The graveside service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Zion Cemetery with Dr. Holley Faulkner Jr. officiating.

Bio: John M. Carpenter Dies on Bunners Ridge. The West Virginian. Fairmont, WV. Sat., Dec. 28, 1918. John M. Carpenter, aged 41 years, son of David C. and Martha Jane Keener Carpenter, died last evening at his home on Bunner's Ridge after an illness from influenza. The deceased is survived by his wife, who was formerly Miss. Nancy Vincent, and nine children, namely, Clyde Carpenter, of Mud Lick Run; Mrs. George Frazier, of Prickett's Creek; Lena, Gertrude, Paul, Amos, Lelia and Violet at home. The deceased was an elder in the Fairview M. E. Chruch on Bunner's Ridge and funeral services will be held there on Sunday morning at ten o'clock by the Rev. Curtis. The body will be buried in the Fairview Cemetery by undertaker Jenkins. (Note: he is buried in the Hayhurst Cemetery.)
