WOMAN, SON DIE AS FIRE RAZES HOME - Douglas Man is Severely Burned in Vain Attempt to Save Family by Staff Correspondent NEWMAN

An investigation into the farm house blaze which claimed the lives' of Mrs. Frank Starwalt, 35 and her five-year-old son, Dean, Wednesday night here was scheduled for 9 a.m., today by Dr. R.C. Gillogly, Douglas county coroner, to sift details.

Frank Starwalt was in Jarman hospital at Tuscola last night in critical condition with burns received when he dashed into the blazing house in a vain attempt to save his wife and son. Explosion of a kerosene lamp Wednesday night was blamed for the fire. Carried Child Outside, according to Clint Boyer, Douglas county old age supervisor, reached his wife in the blazing room but was unable to carry her out. He seized Dean and took him outside. The child died later in the office of Dr. H.I. Conn., in Newman, where he was taken for treatment for severe burns. Reports of the sudden blaze said Starwalt was sleeping in another room with a second son, Wallace, 8, and that he rushed outside when the kerosene lamp exploded in an adjoining room. Finding his wife and other son missing, he dashed back inside. Two persons, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Stevens, sister and brother-in-law of Mrs. Starwalt, who were sleeping in another room, were uninjured.

Farm House Razed - The farm house seven miles southwest of Newman on the Tom Burgett farm was burned to the ground. The body of Mrs. Starwalt was not recovered until the flames died down after destroying the building, it was reported.
