Marjorie Jean Washburn, 86, of Hillsboro, Il formerly of Watseka, Il, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2015. She was born on March 4, 1929 in Casey, Il, the daughter of Ivan Carpenter and Lydia (Cochanour) Carpenter.
Marjorie married James R. Washburn on July 20, 1948. He passed on October 5, 1982.
Mrs. Washburn was a receptionist at Illinois Bell for 10 years and a dispatcher for AT&T for 10 years.
She was also a member of the Lady’s Auxiliary VFW in Watseka.
She enjoyed cross stitching and baking.
Surviving Mrs. Washburn is one son and daughter-in-law, James and Lynn Washburn of Taylor Springs, IL; one grandchild, Ken Kellerman of Decatur, Il; three great-grandchildren; and five nieces and nephews.
She is also preceded in death by both parents; husband, James Washburn; and two sisters, Judy and Rosemary. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 from 12:00pm-1:00pm at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at 1:00 pm, at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka. Pastor Joseph Hughes will officiate.
Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Watseka, Il.
Memorials in Mrs. Washburn's name can be made to Montgomery County Cancer Association.

Grover Carpenter
Grover Carpenter was born in Union township May 13, 1885. departed this life Feb. 22, 1915, being the age of 29 years, 7 months, and 19 days.
He grew to manhood and received his education in Union township and at Toledo, and at the age of 17 began teaching shcool and had followed the occupation for several years in Cumberland and Clark counties and was prized as one of the county's most efficient teachers.
He was married to Coral Gossett June 14th, 1908. To this union two children were born-Mildred Eleanor and Donald Edgar, both survive him.
He was enlisted in the railway mail service about one year ago, but had to give up the work on account of failing health and was stricken with a nervous break down about the first of December and since was steadily on the decline until the first of February he revived and hopes were entertained for his recovery, but alas, the vital brain was affected and he found no rest sleeping or awaking until God called him up higher.
He was converted about twelve years ago and joined the Separate Baptist church of Union and continued faithful in the service of the Master.
He was a kind and obedient, son, a loving husband, an affectionate father. His one aim in life to good to all and malice toward none.
He leaves to mourn his early demise a heart broken wife, two children, father, mother, one sister and two brothers, grandfather and grandmother and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted from Macedonia church by Rev. Harry Reese, after which the remains were interred in the cemetery near by.
A precious one from us has gone
A voice we loved is stilled
A place is vacant in our home
Which never can be filled.

LaVonne Beverly McClung, 78, died on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. It was LaVonne's wishes that her body be donated to University of South Dakota School of Medicine. No services are planned at this time.LaVonne Beverly Carpenter was born on June 17, 1933 in Alcester, SD to Raymond and Ida Carpenter. As a child her family moved to Sioux Falls, SD and it is here she received her education. On January 11, 1952 she was united in marriage with Stanley McClung. The couple lived in Sioux Falls before making their home in Harrisburg nearly thirty years ago. Lavonne worked most of her adult life at various businesses in Sioux Falls and as a custodian in Harrisburg School District prior to her retirement.
Lavonne loved the outdoors and outdoor activities. She loved fishing for walleye and salmon on the Missouri River and trout fishing in the Black Hills. Deer and pheasant hunting occupied her time in the fall and early winter. Camping with her family was a special joy of hers and offered many memorable events.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Stanley McClung of Harrisburg, SD; son, Rick McClung and his wife, Mary of Canton, SD; grandson, Eric McClung of Sioux Falls, SD; and one sister, Wanda Pease and her husband, Larry of Sioux Falls, SD.
Lavonne is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Donald and Dean Carpenter.

Funeral services were held at Koehn Bros. Funeral Chapel, Delmont, for Howard Carpenter, 97, who died June 27 at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston. Interment was at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Armour.Howard Carpenter was born March 8, 1909, to Ray and Ellen (Carlson) Carpenter in Charles Mix County. He lived on the family farm south of Delmont and went to country school near there. At an early age, he was baptized and confirmed into the Methodist Church.
He was united in marriage to Verna Peters on June 22, 1932, in Mitchell. Together they farmed near Delmont until Howard became a Pioneer Seed salesman and they moved into Delmont.
He was an avid sports fan, especially baseball.
He is survived by a daughter, Shirley Broz and husband, Bob, of Wagner; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Carpenter of Sioux Falls; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Verna; a son, Norman; and two sisters, Florence and Mildred.
