COMMENTS:
He served as a private in Captain Woods Company of Col. ____ Regiment of the Connecticut line for 6 months. Pension started 1 July 1837. Increase to $120 semi-annual starting March 1837.
Application dated 21 March 1837.  He cites his birth date as 2 Aug 1764 and father's name of Comfort.
He served as a substitue for his father starting on or about 1 Sept. 1778. He served until the last of October or first of November 1778 and received a verbal discharge.
He also served as a substitue for his father in 1780 as a miltary guard at the State Prison in Granby then Simsbury. It was a Sergeants Guard under Lt. Samuel Blodget consisting of about 12 men. The were guarding men who were taken up or attempting to enlist in the British Army. He served for two months.
He again served as a substitue for his father in September 1781 and marched to New London under the Company of Captain Walls probably in the Regiment of Col. McLelland. They were ordered across the river to Groton and the massacure (by the traitor Arnold) in the fort there. He helped remove the dead and helped remove provisions and other items still useful. Later they helped repair the fort.  He served for two months then was verbally discharged.
Then the record provides statements regarding his character and those supporting his claim.
BOUNTY LAND:
The record then continues with a Bounty Land claim with his application dated 17th March 1855. Now age 89 and a resident of Ellington, CT.
Then comes a document or form that was filled out with his service times, parent names and dates of application.  Added to the "Age at date of Appliication is "Died in 1855."
Then comes correspondence in 1909 regarding his service and replies and comments. And a claim on the bounty Land he did not get.
In 1906 from Wolfe Tavern, NewBuryPort, MA wrote a request twice and signed it - but I can not read the signatures!
Florence C. wakefiled of Jewett City wrote in 1909.
In 1918 Alice McMorris of Harrisma, TN wrote.
NOTE:  The the record continues with a claim of Polly Carpenter a widow of Timothy Carpenter who served in the Revolutionary War from VT and who died in 1814.  This is regarding a different Timothy Carpenter.

Hi John,
I am researching a Carpenter connection that I recently discovered on my
husband's side of the family.  Sharilyn Whitaker said you have a large data
base of names and might be able to help me.  I sure hope so.  I am trying to
find out something about Lydia Carpenter.  She was from Coventry, CT (Tolland
Co.).  She married John H. Palmes.  On 13 Jan 1854 their son, George Oliver
Palmes, was born.  I know nothing else about Lydia Carpenter but would love to
find out anything I can.  Thanks so much for any help you can provide.
