Howard Carpenter, 88, of Lakeview died Nov. 13, 1999 at the Kelsey Memorial Hospital, Lakeview. He was the son of Frank J. Carpenter and Susan Agnes Church Carpenter.
He is survived by two daughters, Joyce Carpenter of Detroit and Barbara (Charles) Lucas of Lakeview; four sons, Frank (Joyce) of Farwell, Roger (Sandy) of DeSoto, Texas, Douglas (Nelda) of Potterville, and Jack (Anita) of Lakeview; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Illah French and Alice Echtinaw; and five brothers, R.S., Ed. Harry, Mick, and John.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Laurel Marie Bowser Carpenter; two grandchildren, Michelle and Duane Carpenter; one sister; and five brothers.
Services were Nov. 17 at Brockway Wesleyan Church with Pastors Roger Cooper and Randy Carpenter officiating.
Interment was in the Altona Cemetery, Mecosta County.
Arrangements were made by the Youngman-McCullough Funeral Chapel, Lakeview.

Cora Carpenter, 85, of Charlotte died Sunday, June 13, 1999 at the Sparrow Health Systems, Sparrow Campus, after a short illness.
Mrs. Carpenter was born Nov. 10, 1913 in Sandusky County, Ohio, the daughter of Joacob and Samantha (Holderman) Bowser and had been an Eaton County resident for 62 years. She was a charter member of the West Windsor United Brethren Church.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Rholland (Archie) Carpenter; one daughter, Carol Carpenter of Yale; one son, David (Diane) Carpenter of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Holly (James) Shirely, Rebecca (Wade) Wertz and Michael (Amanda) Carpeneter; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Anna Knapp of Findlay, Ohio and Wilma Dangler of Big Rapids; and one brother, Charles Bowser of Dayton, Ohio.
Services were June 16 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. Harold Cherry and the Rev. Richard Thorp officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the West Windsor UB Church.

Bio:
Gladys Carpenter Grimes, 97, of Dunwoody, Ga., formerly of Reisterstown, died Jan. 3, 2008, in Dunwoody.
She was the daughter of the late James M. and Hallie H. Carpenter.
She attended Franklin High School and graduated from Maryland State Normal School in 1930.
She earned her Bachelor of Science from Towson State College in 1961.
She had been an elementary school teacher and retired from the Baltimore County Public School System in 1974, after teaching for 30 years. Her first teaching assignment was in White Marsh, but the majority of her teaching years were spent at Franklin Elementary School.
She attended St. Thomas' Episcopal Church.
Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Joan G. and James Luerssen; granddaughter and husband Amy L. and Robert Thien; great-grandchildren Abigail and Christopher Thien, all of Atlanta, Ga.; and nieces Peggy Eline of Finksburg and Nancy Dietrich of Forest Hill.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas Church, 232 St. Thomas Lane, Owings Mills. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the service.
Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, 232 St. Thomas Lane, Owings Mills, MD 21117; or the Towson University Foundation (College of Education), General Scholarship, 8000 York Road, Towson, MD 21252.
