Max Welch died of a coronary thrombosis early in the morning on
November 7, 1992. He was living at Meadowcroft, a retirement home in
Mississauga, Ontario at the time. He had been hospitalized a week
earlier with a viral infection, but had been sent home to Meadowcroft
late in October. On Thursday, November 5, his doctor examined him and
said that he had swelling in both legs. On Friday night he asked that a
nurse be assigned to his room, because he had been having trouble
sleeping. He was sleeping peacefully at about 6 a.m. on Saturday, and the
nurse stepped out of the room. When she returned about 6:30, he had died
peacefully in his sleep.
