She was born January 31, 1917 in Rice County, MN to Bernard and Mary (Brandenberg) Emge. She grew up on the family farm in rural Faribault where she attended country school. Her mother died when Elizabeth was young so after her schooling she stayed home to help with the house and farm work. On October 2, 1937 she married Edgar Carpenter at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Faribault. The couple farmed for a short time in Faribault and later moved to Kasota and then Mankato. While in Mankato they lost their home to a flood in 1950 and moved to Good Thunder. Later they made their home in Mora, Braham and eventually settled in Cambridge. Edgar died in February 1990. Elizabeth continued to live at her home until her passing. Elizabeth enjoyed gardening, canning, baking bread, and caring for her animals. She was a strong willed person who was very artistic, had a talent of drawing and writing, and even had written a poem for all of her grandchildren. She especially enjoyed holidays, being able to spend time with all of her children and grandchildren. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Isanti.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edgar, brother Martin Fleigel, sisters Dorothy Whetsel, Anna Stigsel, and Mary Becker.
Elizabeth is survived by her children Yvonne Newman of Pine City, Sharon (Joe) Fix of Pine City, Teresa Kunzer, Dennis (Judy) Carpenter of Cambridge, 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, sister Delores (John) Guptill of Sedona, AZ, brother Sylvester (Dorothy) Emge of Faribault.
