Annie Schley Haines, youngest daughter of John Schley Haines and the former Miss Allah M. Brooks, was born on the 21st of September 1880 in Quitman, Brooks County, Georgia. Annie grew up in Savannah and graduated from Elizabeth College in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1901. She also was an honors graduate of Peabody Institute of Music in Baltimore.
On Christmas Day 1907 in Macon, Georgia, Annie married Dr. Frederick Denniston Carpenter, son of Samuel T. and Phebe Eleanor [Brown] Carpenter, of St. Joe, Missouri. The wedding was held at Christ Church and her matron of honor was her older sister, Mary Walker Schley Duckworth. After the wedding, Dr. Carpenter and Annie lived in Greensboro, Georgia.
During 1908, Mrs. F. D. (Annie) Carpenter was the organist and Choir Director at First Presbyterian Church in Augusta; while Dr. Carpenter studied at the Medical College. They returned to Maryland, where Dr. Carpenter was in practice in St. Micheal's.
In the mid 1920's, Annie and Frederick separated and Annie lived in Atlanta near her sister, Mary. It was here on the on the 8th of December 1969 that Annie departed this life at the age of 89.
