Bio: Zelma CarpenterMrs. Zelma Carpenter, 88, of Dodson, LA, was called unto the rest by her Lord Jesus Christ after a short illness on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at the Winn Parish Medical Center in Winnfield. She was a member of the Union Baptist Church in Joyce.Born March 09, 1924 in Roscoe, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Walter Mayfield Jones and Ellen Bonnette Jones. She was preceded in death, only 11 days earlier, by her husband, Rev. Her greatest love was serving as a deacon's, preacher's and a missionary's wife. She also enjoyed big game hunting with her husband in New Mexico and Colorado, as well as cooking and gardening, both in vegetable and flower gardens. She was a very cooperative person, always content to be in the background and never needed recognition. For 72 years and 9 months, she was truly the "wind beneath her husband's wings".Mrs. Carpenter made her professional faith at Roscoe Baptist Church in Roscoe, Texas, in early 1936. When her family moved to Louisiana in late 1936, she became a charter member of Welcome Home Baptist Church near Dodson where Rev. Providing the meals and ministering, while traveling the roads by donkey or walking by day and during the nightly services among 9 missions and the main pastorate at Paradise Baptist Church in Crofts Hill, Jamaica, became her work for over 35 years, amassing many heartrending stories both told and untold. She also served as a missionary's wife for 27 years in the Cherokee Indian Nation in OK. Some of the many experiences the two amassed were catalogued and written in their biography entitled, "Throw it in the Creek."Survivors are her four daughters Zelma Odell Cowher and Sheral Maxey and husband Donnie of Winnfield, Carolyn Addington, and Sue Ellyn Barton and husband Russell of Dodson; six grandchildren Terri Wilkerson, Stacey Wilkerson Smotherman and husband Rick, Kristie Maxey Rolen, Susan Barton Vann and husband Roger, Rusty Travis Barton and wife Angela, Janna Addington Harrel; seven great-grandchildren Sarah Mauterer Truell, Shelby Smotherman, Ashley Rolen O'Bannon, Derek Rolen, Caroline Harrel, Alison Harrel, and Landon Travis Barton; three great great-grandchildren Jaelyn Rolen O'Bannon, Kennedee Rolen O'Bannon and Presley Truell, three step great-grandchildren, nine step great great-grandchildren; two sisters Ruth Carpenter Lafollette of Dodson and Irene Spangler of Winnfield. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, friends, church members, fellow pastors and wives, music directors and fellow mission workers. Maude Alma Wilson

GRAVE: image plus bio picture
Maude Alma Wilson Carpenter
Birth: 31 Oct 1930
Death: 29 Aug 2010 (aged 79)
Burial: Sanders Chapel Cemetery, Calvin, Winn Parish, Louisiana, USA
Memorial #: 57943414
Bio:
Maude Alma Carpenter, born Maude Alma Wilson on October 31, 1930, departed this world to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 8:05 PM August 29, 2010.
Maude was preceded in death by her parents, Henry H. and Cornelia Bundrick Wilson, beloved husband of 57 years, W.E. "Sam" Carpenter, a sister, Lanell Wilson Carpenter, and a brother, Howard H. Willson, a granddaughter, Lauren Brooke Jones, and Son-in-law, Michael Paul Procell.
Maude is survived by three children: Peggy Carpenter Chandler, Debbie Carpenter Procell, and Greg Carpenter. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Brandon Procell, Layton Procell, Erin Austin, Braxton Procell, Devon Knotts, Kennedi Carpenter, Shelly Carpenter, and Jamie Barron; her 5 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Born and raised in Winn Parish, she met her husband of 57 years, W.E. "Sam" Carpenter and lived in Calvin the remainder of her years. She was a faithful child of God, aloving wife, and a caring mother and grandmother. To us, she was "maw", our grandmother, an irreplaceable example and influence of love, strength and family. We all remember maw always being there in her strong, calm way loving and standing firmly behind her family. She made a good man great; paw, in our eyes. We believe she made all of us better. Although she never stood out in front, she was the strength for others who did. We remember the heat from her living room heater before school in the winter, the smell of the dining room air conditioner in the summer, and the perfectly crispy fish sticks and intensely sweet kool aid. As a child these things comforted us; they were evidences of her love, and are hers forever in our minds. As adults, we see the deeper parts of maw. We strive as husbands and wives for what we saw in maw and paw. As a loving grandparent, maw showed us what it takes to nurture a child in God's ways. We feel we are better people today because of her, as are many of you that knew her. She was Maude, Momma and Maw to us. We will miss her until we meet again, by and by Lord by and by.
