Bio: Charles B. Carpenter age 89, of Manayunk, died Dec. 4, 2014. A WWII Navy veteran, member of the American Legion, and longtime member of St. Josaphat Church and current member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. He retired as superintendent of Container Corporation of America after many years and spent his retirement gardening, taking care of his pets, Brandy, Sailor, and Sonnie, and enjoying his new cars. He was the husband of the late Genevieve "Jeanne" Carpenter, whom he met during a dance at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. He was father of Charles (Marie), J. Richard (Maria), Frederick (Ria), James Carpenter, Mary Ann (Vincent) Wertan, and Joni (Ric) Bensinger. Also survived by 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends. Relatives and friends invited to Viewing Tuesday eve 7-9 P.M. at The Koller Funeral Home, 6835 Ridge Ave. (corner of Livezey) and Wednesday 9:30 A.M. followed by Funeral Mass 10:30 A.M. at St. Josaphat Church, Manayunk. Interment with Military Honors at Westminster Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to North Light Community Center, Attn. Office of Development, 175 Green Lane, Phila., Pa 19127. Condolences may be shared at www.kollerfuneralhome.com.Published on Philly.com on Dec. 8, 2014.
