Vivian E. Carpenter, 90, of Ashmore, crossed the rainbow bridge to rejoin her beloved husband Tom, Saturday, October 6, 2018 at SBLHC.

Her graveside funeral was held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 8, 2018 at Patsy Mitchell Cemetery, rural Ashmore. Arrangements: Harper-Swickard.

Vivian was born November 3, 1927 in Coles County, Illinois, daughter of George and Eula (Graham) Smith. She married Thomas Carpenter, May 27, 1967 at the Ashmore Presbyterian Church; he passed away April 24, 2009. She is survived by two sisters: Mary Kaiser of Charleston and Lena Peters of Mattoon; four grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren: as well as a special nephew: Randy Brown and his wife: Sharlene, of Ashmore, also survive. She was preceded in death by one son, one daughter, two grandchildren, three brothers, and two sisters.

Vivian was a member of the Ashmore Presbyterian Church. She retired from the Mattoon Golf and Country Club, where she had served as Chef. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and gardening.

Don was born July 24, 1935 at Decatur, Illinois, son of Charles and Louise (Davidson) Gordon.
He is survived by his significant other: Nina Rose of Charleston, and two of her great-nieces “who he loved to spoil”: Addyson and Bryleigh; one son: Terry Gordon and wife Cathy of Charleston; grandchildren: Jenni Gordon of Charleston and Mandy Arena and husband Nick of Mattoon; great-grandchildren: Ethan, Ella, and Nico; brothers: Roger Gordon and wife Judy of Mattoon, Richard Gordon and wife Bonnie of Massachusetts, and Jack Davidson of Colorado; and sister: Sue Clayton of Illinois. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters, and his wife: Carolyn (Carpenter) Gordon.
Don was a mechanic, and had operated Gordon’s Garage for many years.

Donna lee  Carpenter- died at birth
Another Child born out of wedlock who appeared after my grandfather died. She came to our house and introduced herself to my father. I don't remember her name and she has died.

My grandfather Don had several brothers but none of them were killed in a motorcycle accident. Here are their names; Paul Carpenter (died of cancer in Springfield,Illinois in about 1990, Wayne Carpenter (died in Springfield, Illinois in about 1988) Mark Carpenter (died in 2015 of a heart condition) Glenn Carpenter - died in an accident at the state capital building in about 1968 or so) Ralph Carpenter (died in Chicago in about 1982) He also had several sisters Ruth Carpenter Stevens (deceased), Dorothy Carpenter Wilkerson (deceased), Sis Carpenter Starwalt (deceased)

Donald Mann Carpenter was my grandfather. He died of cancer in 1980 in Springfield, Illinois. he was quite the fellow who had been married 5 times and had over 9 children. My father Max L. Carpenter was from his first wife whose maiden name was Maude Swisher.

SULLIVAN - Jessie F. Miller, 90, of Sullivan went to be with her savior at 11:50 a.m. on Sunday (July 11, 1999), while residing in the Sullivan Living Center.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan, with Pastor Mark Taylor officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan. Memorials are suggested to the First Church of God or donor's choice.

Mrs. Miller was born on Oct. 12, 1908, in Mattoon, the daughter of Earl and Viola "Ola" Gullion King. Jessie was a homemaker all of her life, a member of the First Church of God in Sullivan, where she sang for many years in the choir, was an accomplished pianist and a beloved mother and grandmother. She married William M. Miller on March 9, 1946. He preceded her in death on May 24, 1976.

Survivors include a son, Gale M. Bruner and wife Norma of Sullivan; daughters, Viola Janssen and husband Herman of Mattoon; Jessie L. McCall of Mattoon; Donna Gregory and husband Floyd of Sullivan; granddaughter, Deborah Spencer of Sullivan, who they raised; stepdaughter, Marie Adams and husband August of Sullivan; brothers, Charles King of St. Charles, Mo.; Richard King of Montrose; sisters, Madonna Carman of Mattoon; Earline Clark of Roswell, N.M.; Joanne Perry of Las Vegas, Nev.; 12 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four great-stepgrandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and three sisters.

Donna Lee Gregory, 70, of Sullivan went to be with her Savior at 6:40 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2008. She passed away quietly with her family by her side at Cale Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Visitation will be one hour before the service at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan. Memorials may be made to the First Apostolic Church of Sullivan.

Donna was born April 8, 1938 in Mattoon the daughter of Donald Lee Carpenter and Jessie (Franklin) Miller. She married Floyd L. Gregory February 13, 1982 in Sullivan. Donna was a member of the First Apostolic Church of Sullivan; she was also a board member and a Sunday School Superintendent at the church. She retired from Brach's Candy after twenty years of employment. She then worked at Titus Memorial Home where she cared for others.

Donna is survived by her husband, Floyd; daughters, Pamela J. (Fred) Brown of Springfield, Penny L. (Kevin) Landrus of Sullivan; step-children, Darla (Dennis) Phoenix of Ava, Diane (Mike) McDaniels of Lincoln; sister, Viola (Herman) Janssen of Mattoon, Jesse McCall of Mattoon; grandchildren, Joseph (Tracy) Brown of Florida; Matthew (Cami) Brown of Germany serving in the U.S. Army, Jennifer (Scott) England of Sullivan, Calen Landrus of Sullivan; great-grandchildren, Tyson Brown, Carmine Brown, Adriana Brown, Easton England and five step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Gale Bruner and his wife Norma.

SHERMAN - Leander Frances "Lee" Carpenter, 83, of Sherman died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at Villa Health Care East in Sherman.

She was born Nov. 26, 1918, in Mercedes, Texas, the daughter of William R. and Alice H. McIlwain McManus.

She married Donald Carpenter in 1962 in Jacksonville; he preceded her in death.

Mrs. Carpenter was a clerk at Thrifty Drugs for 35 years, retiring in 1983.

She attended the Baptist Church.

Survivors: two sons; two daughters; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Bisch and Son Funeral Home, the Rev. Mark Emerson officiating.

Inurnment: Roselawn Memorial Park.

Wayne E. Carpenter, 79, of Springfield died at 2:40 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Hospital.

He was born Dec. 15, 1913, in Humboldt, the son of Nathaniel and Cora E. Hill Carpenter.

He married Gertrude E. Malensky in 1937.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, a sister and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Carpenter was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

He was a window cleaner for 20 years. He was a foreman for Western Maintenance for 12 years and Hays Freight Lines for 12 years.

Surviving are his wife, Gertrude E.; a son; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Stevens and Mrs. Dorothy Wilkinson, both of Humboldt; a brother, Mark of Humboldt; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be at noon Friday at Staab Funeral Home, with the Rev. Thomas Radtke officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.

UTICA, Ky. - Mark Eugene Carpenter, 88, of Utica, Ky., formerly of Humboldt, died at 8:25 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 24, 2012) at Owensboro Medical Health Center in Owensboro, Ky.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Edwards Funeral Home in Arcola with the Rev. Dale Tomas officiating. Burial will be at Humboldt Cemetery. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
He was born June 11, 1923, in Arcola, the son of Nathaniel and Cora Hill Carpenter. He married Vivia Odell in 1948; she died in 2006.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Carpenter of Muncie, Ind., and Monty Carpenter of Cooks Mills; one daughter, Toni Long of Utica, Ky.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Carpenter was formerly employed as a bus driver.
He was a member of Living Faith Baptist Church in Hartford, Ky.
Memorials may be made to the hospice of the donor's choice.

Genevieve L. Adams was born January 24, 1929 in Sioux Falls, SD. She grew up in Sioux Falls where she received her education, attending Hawthorne Elementary School and Washington High School. Following high school graduation, she worked at Barr’s Candy Factory in Sioux Falls.
She was united in marriage with Donald Carpenter on June 12, 1944 in Sioux City, IA.

Genevieve’s passion in life was caring for and raising her 10 children. She taught them to always be loving, kind and to be forgiving—not only to each other, but to others as well. After her children were grown, Genevieve was employed in the dietary department of Covington Heights Health Care Center. Her husband preceded her in death in 1983.

She was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church.

The family of Genevieve Carpenter thanks you for your support and presence today. An invitation is extended to join them at the church for refreshments and fellowship following the committal service.

“Don’t cry for me. I’ve lived a full life. God has blessed me with 10 loving children that has now grown to 74 and counting. Remember to be loving, kind and forgiving—to be there for one another. I now put myself in God’s hands. I’ll be right beside you and always in your hearts as you will be in mine. I love you all”
