Bio: Long time Assemblyman John Carpenter passed away on Saturday, November 19th at home at the age of 86. Born in Fallon, Nevada but raised in Ely. He graduated from White Pine High and immediately went into the ranching business with his Uncles. Prior to serving 24 years in the Nevada State Assembly, he served as Elko County Commissioner for 14 years. He was a beacon for the community, dedicating his life to public service and always fighting for his beloved hometown and state. He was named to the Assembly Hall of Distinction in 2011.He is survived by his cherished wife Roseann of 64 years and seven children. John "Jet" Carp[enter (Tina), Scott Carpenter, Elizabeth Carpenter, Susan Carpenter, Doug Carpenter, Lois Carpenter and Linda Meo (Nick), as well as 19 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, his cousins Paul Carpenter and George Carpenter,sister-in-laws Florence Roberts (Wayne) and Teresa Slater and many many nieces and nephews with whom he maintained close relationships. He was precede in death by his parents John (Jack) and Lucille Carpenter, his in-laws Clarence and Genevieve Slater, sister Phyllis Hand, brother Jake Carpenter and his brother-in-law and best friend Larry Slater.John, a long time rancher and real estate broker, led with a quiet strength, supporting not only his family, but the land and community at large.He was a very passionate gardener and cultivated beautiful flowers(most notably, his famous tulips and gladioli), as well as fruits and vegetables, which he shared with his neighbors and the Elko Senior Center.He will also be remembered for his Christmas lights, which were a favorite holiday tradition and stopping point for the community. His Sunday ritual was visiting all his friends that were either housebound, in the hospital or at the Manor. He enjoyed the challenges when it came to fighting for rural Nevada such as the Kelly Springs project, Jarbidge Shovel Brigade, Elko Convention and Visitors Authority,Educational funding, Vitality Center,California Trail Interpretive Center, Northern Nevada Community College (aka Great Basin College), Northeastern Nevada Museum, Peace Park, Elko Senior Citizens Center, Elko General Hospital, Snow Bowl and Sherman Station. He was also instrumental in starting the Basque Festival with Jess Goicoechea and supplying the sheep for this event for many years.In addition, he was a member of Elko Rotary, Knights of Columbus, Cattlemen's Association and Past President of the National Woolgrowers.In his honor, the Elko County Law Enforcement building was dedicated and renamed the John C. Carpenter Law Enforcement Center.Services will be held Saturday November 26, 2016 at 10:00 am at the Convention Center. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 25, 2016 at St. Joseph's Church. The family has requested that memorials be sent to Northeastern Nevada Museum, Northern Nevada Autism Network, the California Trail Interpretive Center or a charity of your choice.

Bio: Ludlow - Robert Michael Carpenter 82, passed away August 11, 2015 at a local hospital. He was born July 20, 1933 in Hammond Plantation, the son of Alfred and Mary (McGuire) Carpenter. Robert grew up in Houlton and graduated from Houlton High School, Class of 1951. He met and married Barbara Wood in Sept. 1953. He was a local potato farmer until 1974. In 1972, Robert started Carpenter’s Rubbish Removal and Light Trucking, retiring in 1994. He enjoyed wintering in Florida and Arizona. Robert coached Little League. He enjoyed harness racing. Robert had a strong work ethic that he passed on to his family. Robert is survived his wife Barbara (Wood) Carpenter of Ludlow; two sons Brian Carpenter and his wife Lisa of Bangor, Johnny Carpenter and his wife Sharon McCarthy of Etna; four grandchildren, two great grandchildren; his brother Philip Carpenter of Kentucky; his sister Shirley Kelley of South Carolina; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Paul Carpenter and his sister Eleanor Osgood. Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery. (Dunn Funeral Home and Bangor Daily News 8/11/2015)

Betty J. Carpenter, 71, of Louisville, passed away Monday, May 14, 2012 at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital.
She was a former member of the old St. Clements Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul C. Carpenter, Sr., a son, Paul C. Carpenter, Jr., and a daughter, Elizabeth Carpenter.
Survivors include a daughter, Tiffany McCune (Billy Hopper); sons, Mike Carpenter (Angela Williams) and Mark Carpenter (Stacy); a brother, Richard Collins; daughter-in-law, Laura Carpenter; 7 granddaughters; and 1 great-grandson.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday at Heady-Hardy Funeral Home, 7710 Dixie Highway, followed by entombment at Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation will be from 2-8 pm Tuesday
