Alvin D. Carpenter, 84, of Elyria, died Saturday, June 17, 2006, at Life Care Center of Elyria, following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Columbia Township, lived in Grafton for 46 years and moved to Elyria in 1998. He was a Grafton Village 2nd Ward councilman from 1979 to 1981.
He graduated from Oberlin High School in 1939, served in the U.S. Army and was a member of First Baptist Church of Elyria.
He worked as a technician for General Telephone Co., Oberlin, for 40 years on circuit boards.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Betty J. (nee Schweinfurth); daughters Linda Quesinberry of Scranton, PA, and Sharon Turner of Russell Springs, KY; sons David Carpenter of Stratford, NJ, the Rev. Daniel Carpenter of Rocky Mount, NC, and the Rev. Donald Carpenter of Torrington, CT; sister, Marge Odor of Elyria; and 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elwin D. and Viva M. (nee Alexander) Carpenter; brother, Richard; and sister, June Howard.
Friends may call Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 11400 LaGrange Road. The Rev. Bradley Quick, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Butternut Ridge Cemetery, Eaton Township.

Betty J. Carpenter (nee Schweinfurth), 97, of Elyria, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday April 5, 2020 at The Abbewood in Elyria where she had resided for 21 years.
Betty was born in Sandusky on July 3, 1922 and she was a 1940 graduate of Sandusky High School. Before moving to the Abbewood, she was a resident of Grafton for many years.
Betty was a faithful member for many years of First Baptist Church of Elyria where she taught Sunday school for over 40 years. She enjoyed reading her Bible and telling others about Jesus.
Betty loved writing and she had two books published, “Spring is in the Air” and “Looking For the Uppertaker”.
She also enjoyed cutting out items and making them into 3-D pictures and bird watching.
Betty is survived by: one daughter, Linda J. Quesinberry; three sons, Rev. Daniel T. Carpenter, David A. Carpenter and Rev. Donald A. Carpenter; 15 grandchildren; many greatgrandchildren; and by a dear friend, Janet Hand.
She was preceded in death by: her husband of 65 years, Alvin D. Carpenter in 2006; a daughter, Sharon L. Turner and by her brothers and sisters.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday April 14, 2020 at 2pm at Butternut Ridge Cemetery in Eaton Township. Pastor Craig Golden from First Baptist Church of Elyria will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Elyria. Liston Funeral Home, North Ridgeville, is serving the family.

CARPENTER, RICHARD E. -
Aged 69, of Cement City, went to be with the Lord after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at Arbor Hospice Residence in Ann Arbor. He was born on July 10, 1934 in Oberlin, Ohio to Elwin and Viva (Alexander) Carpenter.
He married Marion N. Shisler July 17, 1954 in Eagle, New York, and she survives. He lived in Lagrange, Ohio area for 30 years, and the past 39 years in the Cement City area. He graduated from Lagrange High School in 1952.
He was a dairy farmer all his life. He was a member of the Cement City Baptist Church in Cement City where he was a Church Elder, Treasurer, and was a Sunday School teacher, Richard was on the Columbia School Board for 12 years. He was the founder and chairman of the Tri-County Church Basketball League and annual tournaments for 38 years. He was basketball official for the JAOA.
Surviving besides his wife, Marion, are two sons, Kevin (Joann) Carpenter of Brooklyn, Kurt (Kristine) Carpenter of Cement City; two daughters, Karen (Steve) Reese of Clark Lake, Kathleen (Tony) Pepe of France; 11 grandchildren, Jeremy Carpenter, Bambi (Michael) Cooper, Heather, Sarah and Scott Reese, Karie, Kristina and Andrew Pepe, Emily, Kayla and Luke Carpenter; three great-grandchildren, Ashley Carpenter, Jordan and Bailey Cooper; one brother, Alvin (Betty) Carpenter of Elyria, Ohio; one sister, Marjorie (Frank) Odor of Elyria, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, June Howard and infant son, Kent.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 9, 2004 at the Cement City Baptist Church in Cement City with Pastor Drew Woods and Pastor Kyle Detmers officiating.
Burial will take place in the Cement City Baptist Church Memorial Gardens in Cement City.
The visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison and from 10 a.m. on Friday until the time of the funeral at the church.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Cement City Baptist Church or Arbor Hospice Residence in Ann Arbor.

She was born on June 8, 1934, in Buffalo, New York to Francis A. and Emoline (Herbert) Shisler. She married Richard E. Carpenter on July 17, 1954, in Eagle, New York, and he preceded her in death on January 6, 2004.
Marion lived her early life in New York state, then she lived her married life in the LaGrange, OH area before moving to the Cement City area in 1964. She graduated from Arcade Central High School in 1951 in Arcade, NY.
