Robert R.Carpenter, M.D., of Lake Jackson died Sunday October 9, 2005, after a long, courageous
journey with Parkinson`s. He graduated from University of Pittsburgh Summa Cum Laude in three years before attending the Univ. of Rochester Medical School and graduating in 1957. After completing his residency at King County Hospital in Seattle, Washington, he returned East to serve at the National
Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.
Where he researched causes and treatment for Lupus. In 1964, he was named assistant professor of
medicine by Baylor University in Houston, where he led research in infectious diseases. He was named
Markle Scholar in academic medcine. In 1968, Dr. Robert Carpenter was appointed assistant professor
at the Univ. of Pittsburg. In this capacity, he served as the medical director of the Western Pennsylvania Regional Medical Program. In 1972, Dr. Carpenter was named professor of internal medicine at the Univ. of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he was director of the Primary Care and community medicine program and led the development of one of the first health maintenance organizations.
In 1982, Dr. Bob, as he was referred to by many, moved to Lake Jackson, where he practiced for 12 years, specializing in Rheumatology and internal medicine.
