Subject: Hicks family
Hi,
I am also a Hicks family member.
I'm not sure if my ancestors are related to you or not, but:
I have a Hezekiah Hicks (b. about 1715). I don't know his birth place.
His father was James Hicks (b. about 1693, Swansea, MA, d. 1729/30, Rehoboth, Bristol, MA. He married Mary Wells, 10/22/1713 in Rehoboth, Bristol, MA.
Hezekiah had a brother, James and sisters Mary, Freelove and Lois.
I have nothing further on Hezekiah's part of the family.
Let me know if any of this helps.
Roy

2733. Thomas Bowen

The birth of Thomas Bowen is found on page 160 of the Vital Records of Swansea,
MA  His marriage is recorded on page216 of the Uxbridge, MA Vital Records
although whoever recorded it did not know how to spell Penelope's name.  This
is evident since she was named for her grandmother Penelope Pray and in other
records of the family of Thomas and Penelope, her name is spelled correctly.
The first two children of Thomas and Penelope were born at Warren, RI and are
listed on page 49 of the Vital Records.     All of the  others were born at
Richmond, NH and are listed in the History of Richmond, NH along with many of
the decendants.
John Bowen contributed a copy of The Genealogy of Thomas Bowen  by Alice Bowen
Cady  &  Jennie Bowen Julian.

Died of myocardial.

Buried in Maplewood Cem. Springville,NY
The lineage of Alfred's mother Emeline Weast is found in the Weast Family
Genealogy, and also the Botsford Family History.  The Botsford Family History
goes down to the birth of Alfred's two daughters Violet and Virginia.  Alfred
is found on the 1900 cnensus at Alengany, NY living with an older cousin,
Daniel Fuller.  In 1910 is is found  in Hamburg, Erie Co, NY  with Luella and
Violet.   Virginia was born after the census was taken that year/    The dates
of death for Alfred,   his parents, grandparents as well as his two young sons
are recorded in the East otto, Ny Vital Records.  His sister and and two
brothers are also listed there and all are buried at Maplewood Cemetary in
Springville, NY.
Alfred was working for the railroad at the time Virginia was born.  At the time
of his death, he was an engineer.
 MARR DATE 17 Jun 1907 # 12256
Alfred married (1) Luella M. BOWEN in Springville, NY. Luella was born 1 Aug

 DEAT DATE 17 Apr 1932 # C3832
 DEAT CAUS cancer
Luella  Bowen's marriage to Alfred broke up in 1912.    It is suspected that
they were never actually divorced since it was nearly impossible to obtain a
divorce in New York.    Sometime around 1915,  she married  Ralph Earl Loghry
at Morton's Corner's near Springville, NY.   It  is our belief that she did not
use her own name when they were married  since after that time she began first
using the name Luella Bertha, and later used just Bertha.  Also on a Photo of
her the name Bertha  Flood is written as her maiden name.  We went to NY and
learned that she had a neighbor named Bertha Flood that was four years younger
than she was and Bertha died in 1913 of blood poisoning.  Because of that we
feel she may have used Bertha's name when she married Ralph Loghry.  It is also
possible she used Bertha's first name with the last name of Bowen.   At this
point we have been unable to find the marriage record of Luella and Ralph.
When Luella died, she was buried under the name of Bertha Loghry.  Ralph was in
prison at the time and she had  cancer so it is very likely she was recieving
some type of county assistance.  If that is the case, she would have had to
produce a marriage  certificate and if the marriage record listed her name as
Bertha, that is the name she would have had to use.  This is the only
explanation we can find as to the reason she is buried under the name of Bertha
instead of Luella.   I feel this information is necessary in order that others
who may want to find Luella M.  (Bowen)  Bowen,  Loghry  will not find
themselves at a dead end.
Alfred and Luella had the following children:

My mother always insisted  she was named Katherine Rose Bowen but because an
aunt requested it, she was nicknamed Violet.   The name Violet stuck and it was
the only name she was ever known by, even though she hated the name.
Unfortunately, her first name was not recorded on her birth certificate so
there is no way of proving what it actually was.   Since she was always known
as Violet,  I have used that name in the family history.
Violet and Lester were married Oct 25, 1927  at Ashford Ny  (marriage Record #
30490)    In February of 1929. Violet caught Lester with another woman and left
him.  She was three and a half months into the pregnacy of their child,.  She
went to Nebraska to stay with her mother and step-father.  Lester showed no
interest in the child at that time or after her birth.   Violet met and later
married the nephew of her step-father, and he gave the child his name and
raised her as his own.
Because Jaunita was the biological child of Lester J. Ahrens, I have listed her
under this marriage.  However since her step-father raised her and gave her his
surname, she is also listed under the second marriage of her mother and the
records of her marriages and the birth of her son are found there.

John Fenner

QUESTION:  How is he related to the state of VA?
QUESTION:  How many John Fenners are there?  If appears there may have been 3-4 father-son combinations in Washington County, RI.  And maybe at least one or more John Fenners in Warwick (Kent County, RI) and/or Glocester (Providence County, RI) also. See GRAVE below. See MILITARY below.
COMMENT:  See BOOK below.
Lydia Carpenter m. John Fenner: perhaps went to Hopkinton.  - page 43
This John Fenner was son of Edward Fenner, son of Arthur (3) grandson of Capt. Arthur (1) - page 42. More information on who Edward Fenner and who he married on page 43.

NOTE:
The following time line is focused on John, son of Arthur, then John Jr. (son of John). Then later maybe a grandson John - the later in Washington County, RI ...

COMMENT:
There appears to be over lap of children ages above likely indicating either John Fenner was a bigamist or there has been indiscriminate merging of two different John Fenners into one record.
A review of other on line genealogies seem to indicate copies of copies or copies of other peoples' copies.
