Bio: John Carpenter went home to the Lord on Sept 17, 2000 after an extended illness. Funeral Services will be Friday, Sept 22, 2000 at 11am at St. Mary Magdalen Parish Church, 8717 7th Ave. SE., Everett.He was born on August 18, 1921 in Fort Edward, New York to James and Alice Carpenter. He was the oldest of 17 children. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers.
John was raised in Fort Edward, NY and attended schools there. He pursued college studies in Syracuse for two years before entering the Navy following the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served four years including major conflicts in the Pacific where he was wounded, requiring several months of hospitalization.
John married his high school sweetheart, Catherine Murphy, in 1942. Upon his return from the war, he was employed by the Scott Paper Co. in 1954. His job transferred him to Everett for the start up of the new paper mill in 1961.
The family also spent a year in Melbourne, Australia to bring a new mill into operation. He and his family returned to Everett where they have resided since. John retired from Scott Paper in 1981 where he had been a supervisor for many years.
John was a lifetime member of the Elks and upon his retirement, served the community through his daily work at St. Vincent De Paul Society, St. Mary Magdalen Parish. He was an avid baseball fan and he and Catherine enjoyed their many trips to Hawaii.
John suffered a stroke in 1987 and was cared for at home by his family for nine years before taking residence at the Everett Rehabilitation Center. The family wishes to thank all the Caregivers there who were a part of John's life during his stay, and our thanks to all the friends who visited John during his stay. He cherished his time with you.
John is survived by his wife, Catherine, of Everett; two sons, John Carpenter, Jr. (Linda) of Marysville, and Robert "Bud" Carpenter (Roxanne) of Arlington; and a daughter, Susan (Mark) Pickard of Everett. He has 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Vincent De Paul Society in care of St. Mary Magdalen Parish Church, 8717 7th Ave. SE, Everett, WA 98203 In lieu of flowers, John would appreciate the sharing of a good joke!

Bio: FORT EDWARD - Paula R. Carpenter, 78, of Fort Edward, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at Fort Hudson Nursing Home.Born on Feb. 17, 1937, in Hudson Falls, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Anna (LaFay) Watson.
Paula worked at various places including, Sam’s, The Heidelberg Inn, Max’s and Reflections, as a waitress and bartender for most of her life.
She also was a Girl Scout Leader and Cub Scout Den Mother.
Paula was the secretary for the Ladies Auxiliary with the Fort Edward Fire Department and was part of the Fort Edward Minstrels.
She enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Some of Paula’s favorite memories were spent with her mother and sisters when they took trips to the casinos. Her summers were spent on the river, at their beloved camp, with her husband and family.
In addition to her parents, Paula was predeceased by her husband, Paul J. Carpenter; her twin brother, Paul E. Watson Sr., and her sister, Barbara Watson.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 13, at St. Joseph’s Church, 164 Broadway, Fort Edward.
Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Fort Edward.
Arrangements are in the care of Singleton Sullivan Potter Funeral Home, 407 Bay Road, Queensbury.

GLENS FALLS - Howard "Bart" Carpenter, 73, of Hunter St., Glens Falls and a former resident of Fort Edward passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 21, 2012 at the Glens Falls Hospital.Born in Glens Falls on January 11, 1939, he was the son of the late James L. and Alice (Regner) Carpenter.
Bart was a graduate of Fort Edward High School, Class of 1958. After high school, he entered the U.S. Navy and served until 1962.
After he was discharged, he worked on bridge construction until he started working for the Delaware and Hudson Railroad later known as Canadian Pacific Railroad. He worked for them until his retirement.
On October 18, 1998, he married Micki Gillis.
Bart was a member of the Fort Edward Idle Hour Club and the Fort Edward Lions Club. He was very instrumental is organizing the Drum and Bugle Corp. Competition that the Lions Club sponsors every year.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Robert, John, William, Richard, Joseph, Paul and James Carpenter, his brothers-in-law, Arvid O'Connell and Raymond Gorham.
Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Fort Edward.
