Birth: 22 Dec 1930
Death: 4 Aug 1977 (aged 46)

Bio: Wife charged in man's deathThe body of a man found Thursday morning lying along a township road 10 miles southwest of Perham in Dead Lake Township has been identified by the sheriff's department as Elmer Eugene Hunter, 46, Dead Lake Township. His wife, Dorothy, 37, was charged with murder in the first degree in county court this morning in connection with Hunter's death. The sheriff's department reports that Hunter died between 2 and 4 a.m. Thursday morning as a result of a single .32 caliber bullet fired from a revolver into his head. His wife was arrested without incident yesterday afternoon at the Hunter home on County Road 14 in Section 25 of Dead Lake Township, approximately two miles from where Hunter's body was found. Hunter was a farmer in the Dead Lake area for many years. The couple had eight children, four from Mrs. Hunter's previous marriage. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting Otter Tail County officials in the investigation.~  ~  ~Hunter's attorney, John Quam of Detroit Lakes, argued that his client suffered "an almost endless list of cruelties" from her husband. He asked that she be placed on probation."I believe Dorothy Hunter is justified in her belief that her husband may have killed her or her children," he said.Judge Gray read a lengthy statement before sentencing Hunter, often bringing up the fact that her eight children need their mother."I expect criticism of the action I'm going to take," Gray said after staying the execution of sentence. He nodded towards Hunter's children, saying "Give these children the love and affection they deserve, because they are the sole reason I am giving you your freedom today."~  ~  ~Elmer Hunter, 46, Richville, died Thursday, Aug. 4 in Dead Lake Township.Services will be Monday, Aug. 8 at 2 p.m. at United Methodist Church, Richville, with Rev.
