One of the most intelligent men I have ever known, my beloved and dearly missed grandfather.
Son of Rollin Jason [1023 pg. 148] and Mary Alma [McDavid] Carpenter and brother of Kenneth Vaughn.
Loving husband of Rachel Irene [Barger], and father to Laurieta Rae [Bell] and Kenneth Edward Carpenter [2013-8 pg. 107].
Grandfather to Liberty [Richards], Teresa [McMillion] and Diana [Pargellis] Bell, and Kenny, Christine and Tammy Carpenter.
Great-grandfather to Micah, Melissa, twins Keith and Kevin, twins Natasha and Nicole, Morgan, Tammy, Kelly, Timmy, Doug and Sarah.
My grandfather was a Naval veteran of World War II, an opera recording artist (recorded on 78 rpms LPs!), and employed by Corona's Sunkist factory and school district.
My grandfather's love of Jesus was never questioned. He rarely spoke about his faith as I was growing up until I was in my mid-teens. When I struck up a conversation about Christianity, it seemed to open the doors of a brand new relationship with my grandfather. He brought numerous books out and spoke about the need to not rely upon one translation, and not to limit oneself but to benefit from the knowledge of many authors and translations.
My grandfather was wonderful. He was a man's man, and an incredible conversationalist. He never treated us like we were children, demanded that we show respect and use manners, talk when only spoken to, and make good grades!! haha Yep, we made $1 per A, and we loved bringing our report cards to him every semester!
My grandfather suffered during his last years on earth with emphysema due to decades of smoking. How I wished he were alive in my adult years. How I wish I could have had many years of conversations with him as an adult. I dearly loved my grandfather, and wished so much that my children could have benefited from knowing such a great man.
