Subject: Re: Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project - 235941 & 923682 - common genealogy
Since the name Alfred Dalton is so specific, and is not found in this Carpenter family anywhere else that I have seen, it does seem to point specifically to a Dalton connection. There is another possible placement for the Sarah and Henry Carpenter enumerated with Mariah Curbey at the 1850 census. Mariah Curbey appears to be Martia Kerby, widow of James Kerby, whom she married in 1844. At her marriage to James Kerby, she was the widow of William Carpenter who had died c1840-1844. At her marriage to William Carpenter, she was the widow of John Browning who had died before 1823 in East Baton Rouge Par. as proved by his probate record. Martia is -said- to have been née Christmas but I haven't tried to verify that. So Martia (née Christmas?) (Browning) (Carpenter) Kerby could be the mother of the two Carpenter children in her household, Sarah and Henry, by her second marriage to William Carpenter during the period 1820-1844. Sarah Carpenter married three times -- first as Sarah F. Carpenter on 16 Nov 1852 in East Baton Rouge Par. LA to Richard Stafford, second on 23 Dec 1856 to William Devall (enumerated next door to Mariah Curbey in 1850), and third on 2 Jan 1860 to Richard Devall, who was born c1821 in LA, with whom she was enumerated in 1860 in East Baton Rouge Par. LA with his Devall children and her one Stafford child, Richard Stafford, born c1857 in LA. Terry
