Margaret Jane Lucas

Once more the angel of death entered into the home of MillroyCarpenter and has called away from us the beloved wife and mother.Margaret Jane Lucas Carpenter, deceased, was born March 5, 1864, andpassed away November 24, 1919, being at the time of her death 55years, 8 months and 19 days of age. She was united in marriage withMr. Millroy Carpenter February 6, 1891. To this happy union was borneleven children, of which six sons and two daughters survive, threesons having passed to the great beyond. Her father and mother andthree sons preceded her to the great beyond several years ago. Two ofher sons served 18 months each in the late war, one returning home inMarch and one just a few days before her death. She lived to see themand welcome their return. It gladdened our hearts for them to be withus again after a long absence from home. but our joy was soon turnedto grief and sadness by the loss of our dear mother. She was taken illWednesday morning with labor pneumonia and Monday morning at 4 o'clockshe passed from this world in a peaceful sleep from which she neverroused. She bore her suffering gently, never murmuring, nevercomplaining. She was loved by all who knew her, but all that physicianand loving hands could do, was of no avail. She leaves to mourn hersad loss, a husband, one sister, eight children, two grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends. She hada loving disposition and akind word for us all, to husband a loving wife and to her children shewas a loving mother, to the community a friend and neighbor. she isgreatly missed in the home and by her friends for in sickness it wasmother that waited upon us and cooled the fever from our brow, andwhen discouraged it was mother bade us try again. But never more willher loving words rest upon us, but her memory will never vanish fromour minds. On Friday morning at ten o'clock services were held at thehome and the remains were taken to the Calais Cemertery and werecarried by her six sons to her last resting place, followed by a largeconcourse of sorrowing friends to show their last tribute of respectto one whom they all loved.
Aprecious one from us is gone,
A voice we loved is still,
There's a vacant place in our home
Which never can be filled.
Our Mother now is sleeping,
With her loved ones on the hill,
But Mother in our memory
Dwells within our family still.
It's hard to break the tender cord,
Which love has bound her heart,
'Tis hard, so hard, to speak the words
We must forever part.
All is dark within our dwelling,
Lonely are our hearts today,
For the one we loved so dearly, Has forever passed away.
Dear Mother now has left us,
For a mansion pure and white,
And her absence has berfit us,
And we are alone tonight.
Husband and Children
