Open house Jan. 5 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. in their home on FairSt. in Quaker City, will celebrate the golden wedding anniversary ofMr. and Mrs. Jesse Bunting, well known residents of the area.
The couple has resided in Quaker City since 1945, coming there fromCalais.
Mrs. Bunting was the former Miss Adelia Carpenter, a daughter of thelate Jacob and Margaret Carpenter, and Mr. Bunting his the son of thelate G.W. and Nancy Jane Bunting, all of whom were residents ofCalais.
They were married Jan. 3, 1914, at Woodsfield by Judge Richner, andare the parents of Hobart A. of Barnesville, and Rodney L. of QuakerCity. Ten grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren complete the familycircle.  Thursday 19 Dec. 1963 Cambridge Jeffersonian Cambridge Ohio.

BARNESVILLE---Jesse J. Bunting, 88, of Quaker City, died Mondaymorning (May 26, 1980) at Barnesville Hospital.
He was born in Calais on April 7, 1892, son of George and NancyCarpenter Bunting. He was preceded in by two sisters, one brother andthree grandchildren.
He leaves his wife, Adelia, of Summit Acres Nursing Home, Caldwell;two sons, Hobart of Barnesville and Rodney of Quaker City; one sister,Mrs. Lina Stephens of Malaga; seven grandchildren; 29great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received after 2 P.M. today at Campbell-Plumly FuneralHome, Barnesville, where services will Wednesday at 3 P.M. withEvangelist James Gallagher officiating. Burial will be in FriendsCemetery, Quaker City. Tuesday 27 May 1980 Cambridge JeffersonianCambridge Ohio.


855. Forest Tony Carpenter

Tony Carpenter, aged fifty years, World War veteran and a lifelongresident of Calais, died Saturday evening at University Hospital inColumbus, following a several weeks illness from tularemia (rabbitfever). The body was brought to the Brubach Funeral Home and preparedfor burial and later removed to his late home. Funeral services wereheld at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon in the Calais Methodist Church andinterment was made in the Calais Cemetery. Surviving the deceased arehis widow, formerly Hazel Taylor, two sons, Virgil and Berle, and adaughter, Irene, of the home, and one sister, Mrs. Della Bunting, ofCalais. Hazel S. Taylor

QUAKER CITY---Hazel S. Carpenter, 87, of Batesville, died at 10:30A.M. Tuesday (June 24, 1986) at Guernsey Memorial Hospital.
She was born Jan. 13, 1899, in Monroe County,  daughter of the lateJames and Marjorie Stevens Taylor.  Mrs. Carpenter was a Methodist byfaith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest T. Carpenter and twosons,  three brothers and three sisters.
She leaves her daughter,  Mr. Richard Irene Neuhart of Batesville;two sons, V.A. Carpenter of Smithfield and B.O. Carpenter ofLewisville;  a brother, Floyd L. Taylor of California;  two sisters,Celia Hunt of Barnesville and Melinda Hutchinson of Caldwell;  ninegrandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday at Thorn-EberleFuneral Home in Quaker City, where services will be 1 P.M. Friday withthe Rev. Ron Miller officiating.  Burial will be in Calais Cemetery.Wed. 25 June 1986 Jeffersonian.


1551. John Wellington Carpenter

John Carpenter, 10 years old, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Carpenter ofCalais, was crushed to death Sunday morning when the automobile drivenby Hobert Bunting, also of Calais, turned over on him.  The Carpenteryouth was riding on the fender of the machine and when Bunting made aquick turn, the car upset,  causing the tragic death of the boy.Bunting and another passenger were not hurt,  but a third, EdwardStarr, was brought to the Community Hospital for treatment of cuts andbruises.
Coroner Turner of Monroe County made investigation on Monday with averdict of accidental death.  Thursday 8 Sept. 1938 Whetstone.


856. Letha Elizabeth Carpenter

Calais was the scene of an unusual tragedy early Thursday morning.
The home of Joseph Pierce was completely destroyed by fire about 4o'clock Thursday morning, which started from an overheated stove pipe.Mr. Pierce arise about 3 o'clock and started the fire and a littlelater Mrs. Pierce while preparing breakfast smelled smoke and on goingupstairs found the bed afire where the children were sleeping.
In trying to save the children,  Mrs. Pierce was burned so badly thatshe died Thursday afternoon.  A daughter, Ethel was also burned up herbody being found later in the debris.  An older brother, ManselPierce, broke and upstairs window and threw two children out and alsodragged his mother outside.
Mr. Pierce was badly burned and is still unconscious but hopes areheld for his recovery.  A grandchild is also in serious condition fromburns.
Funeral services for Mrs. Pierce and daughter Ethel were held Fridayafternoon.  Friday 27 Dec. 1929 Quaker City Home Towner.

Summerfield - Joseph Pierce, 88, of Summerfield died at 8 A.M. Mondayat his home following a long illness.
A retired farmer, he was born in Monroe County Sept, 24, 1873, the sonof John and Elizabeth Carpenter Pierce.
Mr. Pierce is survived by a son, Mancel of Quaker City; threedaughters, Mrs. Easter Poulton and Mrs. Mahala Hill of Summerfield andMrs. Mildred Snyder of Bethesda; 26 grandchildren, 59great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
His wife and five children are deceased.
Friends may call at Brubach Funeral Home in Summerfield 2 to 4 and 7to 9 P.M. today.  Services will be held at 1 P.M. Wednesday at CalaisMethodist church with burial in Calais cemetery.

WHEELING, W.V.--Services will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday atAltmeyer Funeral Home here for Howard (Brownie) Brown, 56, ofWheeling, a Barnesville native. Burial will be in MT. CalvaryCemetery.
Mr. Brown died Sunday (May 5, 1974) in Wheeling Hospital.
He was born Jan. 12, 1918 at Barnesville, a son of the late Gilmoreand Cora Carpenter Brown.

Funeral services for Amos Carpenter, 82, former resident of QuakerCity, were conducted Tuesday at 1:30 P.M. at Eberle Funeral Home hereby Rev. Harry Mason.  Burial was in Friends Cemetery.
Mr. Carpenter died late Saturday in a Cambridge Hospital following alengthy illness.  Prior to recent hospitalization after suffering abroken hip,  Mr. Carpenter has resided at the County Home, Lore CityR.D.

Carpenter,and had resided in Quaker City the past 40 years. She was a member ofthe Quaker City Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are six children; Ernest, of Pleasant City, Clyde, Hermanand John Thomas of Quaker City, Weldon of Newark and Mrs. MaryStephenson of Somerton. One brother, Amos, of Quaker City, alsosurvives. Her husband, Bert, died Jan. 25, 1923. Two sons are alsodeceased.

Services for Fred Carpenter, 65, retired farmer of Middlebourne, whodied Friday at 6:30 P.M. in the Martins Ferry Hospital,  will beconducted Monday at 2 P.M. the Campbell Funeral Home, Barnesville, byEvangelist James Gallagher.  Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Mr. Carpenter was taken to the hospital 19 days ago after suffering astroke.  He was born at Calais, son of William M. and Mary JaneCarpenter, and was a member of the Calais Church of Christ.  His wife,Alberta died in 1940.  He was affiliated with the Barnesville MooseLodge.
Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Wells, Quaker City R.D.,  Mrs.Birdie Brownfield and Mrs. Madge Turner, of Barnesville, and onebrother, Enoch, of Cambridge R.D.
The body was taken to the Campbell Funeral Home and will remain therefor services.  Sat. 19 Nov. 1949 Jeffersonian.

Funeral services will be conducted this Thursday at 2 P.M. at theMiddlebounre Methodist Church for Mrs. Fred Carpetner, 52,  well knownresident of Middlebourne and vicinity.  Services will be conducted byrev. J. L. Nuzum, Middlebourne pastor,  and Rev. J. L. Baker,Fairview,  and burial will be made in the Fairview Cemetery.
Mrs. Alberta Carpenter, age 52, passed away Tuesday at 7:30 A.M. atthe home of her sister, Mrs. Amy Carpenter, Fairview.  She had been incritical condition for about a year.
She was born July 4, 1887, near Middlebourne,  the daughter of WilliamJ. and Sarah Elizabeth Parlet and spent most of her life-time in theMiddlebourne community.  Since early life she was a member of theMiddlebourne Methodist Church and worked willingly and untiringly incivic enterprises.  On Dec. 25, 1921 she married Fred Carpenter, whosurvives.
Mrs. Carpenter is also survived by the sister, Mrs. Amy Carpenter ofFairview and one brother, Ross Parlet, Old Washington.  Three brothersand two sisters are deceased.  Her mother Mrs. William Parlet diedNov. 9, 1939.  Friday 31 May 1940 Quaker City Home Towner.


863. Birdie Ann Carpenter

Mrs. Birdie Ann Brownfield, 70, died Tuesday afternoon at her home inBarnesville.  Mrs. Brownfield was born in Calais Dec. 23, 1887, thedaughter of William and Jane Carpenter.  She was a member of theChurch of Christ in Barnesville.
Surviving are five children, Harland of Barnesville Rt. 3,  Lloyd ofPasadena, Calif.,  Ellis of Cleveland;  Mrs. Vesta VanFossen of thehome and Mrs. Richard Long of Barnesville and two sisters,  Mrs. MadgeHannahs of Barnesville and Mrs. Sarah Wells of near Quaker City.  Herhusband,  James A. Brownfield died Dec. 12, 1941.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 P.M. at the FairviewChurch of Christ and burial will be at Fairview.  Friday 25 July 1958Quaker City Home Towner.

Mrs. Birdie Ann Brownfielld, resident of 307 Hunts Avenue, passed awayat
her home Tuesday afternoon, July 22, at 4:15. The remains were takento the
Campbell Funeral Home where friends will be received. A brief servicewill
be held at 1 o'clock DST Friday, followed by funeral services at the
Fairview Church of Christ at 2 p.m. DST. These will be conducted by
Evangelist J.R. Grinstread, and burial will be made in the Fairview
Cemetery.
Mrs. Brownfield was born at Calais on December 23, 1887, a daughter of
William and Jane Carpenter. She was a member of the Church of Christin
Barnesville.
She was preceded in death on December 12, 1941, by her husband, JamesA
Brownfield, and also by three children.
The survivors are three sons and two daughters, Harold Brownfield of
Barnesville RD 3, Lloyd Brownfield of Pasadena, Ellis Brownfield of
Cleveland, Mrs Vesta VanFossen of the Home and Mrs. Richard Long of

BARNESVILLE, DEC. 13---James A. Brownfield, Henrysburg, 57, fell deadlate Friday afternoon while engaged in constructing a house atLloydsville.  He had been in usual health prior to that time.
He was born July 27, 1884, in Monroe County,  a son of R.K. and JuliaWells Brownfield.  From many years he lived in Hendrysburg.  He was amember of the Fairview Church of Christ.
Surviving are his wife,  Mrs. Birdie Brownfield,  five children,Ellis, Vesta and Dorothy Mae, of the home,  and Harold and Lloyd ofthe U.S. Army;  one step-daughter,  Mrs. Jessie Ralston of Morristownand four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 P.M. at the FairviewChurch of Christ.  Burial will be made in Fairview Cemetery.  The bodywas taken to the Sells Funeral Home, Hendrysburg, and will be removedto the home either Monday evening or Tuesday morning.  13 Dec. 1941Cambridge Jeffersonian.

He was born Dec. 7, 1917, in Summerfield a son of the late Louis andMary "Madge" Carpenter Hannahs.
Mr. Hannahs was a retired truck driver and Protestant by faith.
He was preceded in death by a brother and sister.
He leaves his wife, Rose Marie Pytilk Hannahs;  a brother FrankHannahs of Barnesville and a sister Mrs. Earnest Wagner of QuakerCity.
Services were to be today at the Campbell-Plumly Funeral Home inBarnesville with the Evangelists James Gallagher officiating.  Burialwill be at Southern Cemetery.  Monday 16 Sept. 1985 Jeffersonian.


Rose Marie Pytilk

Rose Marie Hannahs, 83, Barnesville, died Saturday, February 20, 2010at home. She was born January 10, 1927 in Morristown, OH to Frank andEstella (Minder) Pytlik.
She was a member of Main St. United Methodist Church and was a retiredbookkeeper for O.M. Smith Lumber Co. and Al Smith Homes for 44 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband - Larry L. Hannahs(9/14/1985)and an infant sister - Betty Ann Pytlik.
Surviving are her sister - Charlene Pytlik with whom she made her homeand several cousins including - Jeanette Hendrix of Wooster, BillMinder and Dean Minder of Woodsfield, Don Minder and Linda Canter ofLewisville and Larry Minder of Clarington.
Visitation Tuesday from 11 AM until time of the service at 1 PM atCampbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut St.,Barnesville, OH. Burial follows in Southern Cemetery.

QUAKER CITY---Mrs. Sarah Ann Wells, 85, widow of George Wells, died ather home on Quaker City R. D. 3 Tuesday at 5 A.M.
She was born in Monroe County, to William and Mary Jane Carpenter.Her husband died Dec. 7, 1957
Mrs. Wells leaves three sons, Otto, Sam, and Luverne, all of QuakerCity R. D. 3;  one sister, Mrs. Madge Hannahs of Barnesville;  17grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Fairview Church of Christ.  The body is atEberle Funeral Home where friends are being received.  Tuesday 29 Nov.1960 Jeffersonian.


George M. Wells

QUAKER CITY---Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 P.M. inthe Fairview Church of Christ for George M. Wells, Quaker City R.D. 3,who died Saturday noon at the Guernsey Memorial Hospital, where he hadbeen a patient 13 days.
Born in Monroe County On Sept. 2, 1876, he lived all his life in thisarea.
He leaves his widow,  Sarah Ann Carpenter Wells,  three sons, Otto,Samuel and Luverre,  all of Quaker City R.D. 3;  four brothers,Forest and Dora of Barnesville and Elijah and Benjamin of Malaga;  twosisters,  Mrs. Ellen Willis and Miss Maude Wells of Barnesville.
The body will remain at the Eberle Funeral Home until noon Tuesday,then will be taken to the church were services will be conducted byEvang. McKinley Bates.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.  Monday 9Dec. 1957 Cambridge Jeffersonian.

BARNESVILLE---Otto C. Wells, 81, of Quaker City R.D. 2, died Tuesday(Nov. 19, 1985) at Barnesville Hospital.
He was born Aug. 18, 1904, in Calais, son of the late George and SarahCarpenter Wells.  Mr. Wells was a retired custodian of Oxford School;member of Fairview Church of Christ and veteran of World War 11.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.  He leavesseveral nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday at theCampbell-Plumby Funeral Home in Barnesville, where services will be at1 P.M. Friday with evangelist Warren Lallathin.  Burial will be inFairview Cemetery.  Wed. 20 Nov. 1985 Cambridge Jeffersonian.


866. Enoch Carpenter

Enoch Carpenter, 70, died Wednesday morning at 11:30 at his home onroute 4, Cambridge. He was the son of William M. and Mary JaneCarpenter and was born in Monroe County July 11, 1880. He lived at hispresent home about three years, moving there from Oxford townshipwhere he had been engaged in farming for several years.
On Aug. 26, 1914, he was married to Rebecca Murphy, who survives. Alsosurviving is a daughter Mrs. Leah Costell, of the home. Two daughtersand a son are deceased. He also is survived by three sisters, Mrs.Sarah Wells of Quaker City R.D., and Mrs. Birdie Brownfield and Mrs.Madge Turner, both of Barnesville.
He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 at the Fairview Churchof Christ and burial will be in Hope Cemetery in Hendrysburg. The bodywas returned to the late home Thursday evening from the Eberle FuneralHome in Quaker City. Friday 1 June 1951 Quaker City Hometowner QuakerCity Ohio.

Rebecca C. Carpenter  85, of Cleveland, formerly of Hendrysburg, diedin St. John Hospital, Cleveland, Friday, May 29, 1981.  She was bornin Hendrysburg on March 20, 1895, a daughter of John and L.M. HamiltonMurphy.
She was preceded in death by her husband Enoch.  Surviving are sixgrandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Campbell-Plumly Funeral Home after 4 p.m.Monday where services were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. KeithTrembath officiating.  Burial was made in the Hope Cemetery,Hendrysburg.


1597. Leanna Carpenter

Miss Leanna Carpenter, 21, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Enoch Carpenter,Quaker City R.D.3, died Thursday at her home. She was stricken withrheumatic fever while vacationing at her home from O.S.U., where shewas enrolled as a freshman. She was recovering satisfactorily untillast Saturday when she suffered another attack.
Miss Carpenter was graduated from Old Washington High School in 1937and was well known and a popular young woman of the community. She wasone of a family of four children, two of whom have passed away withinthe past three years, John T. Carpenter and Mrs. Theressa CarpenterCurtis.
Her parents and one sister, survive. The body was removed to the SellFuneral Home, Hendrysburg, and returned to her late home Friday.Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon 1 o'clock at theFairview Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Mr. Baker. Burial will bemade in Hendrysburg. Sat. 6 April 1940 Cambridge JeffersonianCambridge Ohio.

Funeral services for Mrs. Alton Curtis of Steubenville formerly ofHendrysburg, who died Dec. 28 in Elkins, West Virginia hospital aftera brief illness, was conducted in the Farivew Methodist Church Sundayby Rev. J. L. Baker, pastor of that church.  Burial was made in HopeCemetery, Hendrysburg.
Theressa Carpenter Curtis 24, was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. EnochCarpenter, Quaker City, was a member of the Hendrysburg MethodistChurch and graduated from the Barnesville High School in 1933.  Shewas married to Alton Curtis in November 1935 and lived in Hendrysburgand gone to the home of her mother-in-law to spend the holidays whenstricken.  She is survived by her husband, her parents and twosisters.  Thursday 4 Jan. 1940 Barnesville Whetstone Barnesville Ohio.

John T. Carpenter, aged 20 years, passed away at the the home of hisparents in Oxford Township, Thursday morning following an illness ofpneumonia.
The deceased is the son of Enoch and Rebecca Murphy and was born inBelmont County, Feb. 17, 1917.
He is survived by his parents and three sisters,  Mrs. Thressa Curtisof Steubenville,  Lenna and Leah of the home.
