Obituary:  Thursday 30 June 1960 Noble County Leader
Funeral services for Lewis Carpenter, 71 were conducted Wednesday at2:00 P.M. from the Eberle funeral home, Quaker City, with Evang.McKinley R. Bates officiating.  Burial was made in Friends cemetery.
A retired farmer, his death occurred Monday at Barnesville Generalhospital from a heart attack.
A son of Daniel and Mary Pierce Carpenter, he was born Aug 28, 1888.He was married to Martha Powell, who survives.
Besides his widow, he leaves four sons, Harold and Lester of QuakerCity route,  and Marvin and Charles, both of Quaker City; fivedaughters, Mrs. Helen Henderson of Quaker City, Mrs. Hazel Hannahs ofBarnesville, Mrs. Grace Hannahs, Mrs. Emma Bates and Mrs. BettyHannahs, all of near Quaker City; 30 grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Goldie Carpenter of Batesville,Mrs. Rebecca Leach and Ossie Carpenter, both of Summerfield and onebrother, Joseph Carpenter of Summerfield.  Two brothers and one sonare deceased.

Setting the table for a family dinner for more than 30 people is funbut not a chore in itself and reporting the event or the newspaper islikewise.
The family gathering occurred Easter Sunday at the home of Mr. andMrs. Louie Carpenter, Smith Avenue and made quite a houseful.  Theyhave 9 living children and 26 grandchildren and most of them and theirfamilies were there.
Two sons who weren't were Harold and Marvin and that leaves fivedaughters and two sons who were.
These are Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hannahs and 6 children of Barnesville;Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hannahs and 4 children of Quaker City R. D.;  Mr.and Mrs. Wayne Hannahs and 3 children, Quaker City R. D.;  Mr. andMrs. Robert Henderson and 3 children, Quaker City;  Mr. and Mrs. JoeBates and 3 children, Quaker City R. D.;  Mr. and Mrs. Mike Carpenterand daughter, Quaker City; and Lester Carpenter of Eldon.  Lester hastwo children but the family was down with chickenpox Sunday.
It's a happy but confusing family,  because Hazel,  Betty and GraceCarpenter are married to three brothers,  Harold, Lloyd and WayneHannahs.  A son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter, Joe Bates, whomarried daughter Emma, is a brother of their grandson-in-law,  Eugene(Jeep) Bates.  If you are still with us, daughter Helen's husband,Robert is a single.
The grandson-in-law who is also a brother of the husband of adaughter, wasn't at the dinner but his wife and children were.  She isMrs. Roberta Bates of Summerfield.  Also present was another grandson,Jimmie Carpenter, and his wife of Barnesville, comparative newly-weds.
At least all this is the way we think it is and if it's this confusingon Easter--how do they ever make out at Christmas?  Friday 11 April1958 Quaker City Home Towner.
