LEWISVILLE--Edna M. Johnson, 85, of Johnson Road died at 9:05 A.M.Tuesday (Oct. 14, 2003) at Barnesville Hospital in Barnesville.
She was born June 26, 1918 near Lewisville to Homer and Mariah BlancheCarpenter Brown.  She was a homemaker and was a Protestant by faith.She was a member of the Dopey Dozen Homemakers Club and had formerlyserved on the election board in Seneca Township, Monroe County.
She is survived by her husband Leland V. Johnson. whom she marriedFeb. 1, 1938;  one daughter, Shelba Wills of Woodsfield;  fivegrandchildren;  13 great-grandchildren;  twogreat-great-grandchildren;  two nieces and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Guy Brown andEllis Brown and one son-in-law, Jim Wills.

Leland V. Johnson

WOODSFIELD -- Leland V. Johnson, 96, of 50405 Johnson Road,Lewisville, died Saturday (June 16, 2007) at the Barnesville Hospital,Barnesville.
He was born on April 4, 1911, near Lewisville, son of the late Allenand Nora Carpenter Johnson.
Mr. Johnson was a retired farmer, construction worker and was a formerlaborer for the Ohio Department of Transportation, Monroe County.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, EdnaM. Brown Johnson on Oct. 14, 2003; a brother, Ellis Johnson; and oneson-in-law, Jim Wills.
Surviving are one daughter, Shelba Wills of Woodsfield; fivegrandchildren, Tyra (David) Edgel of Wilson, Gail (Gale) Stovall ofJefferson City, Mo., Terry (Angela) Wills and Chris (Nancy) Wills,both of Dayton, and Crystal (David) Dixon of Lewisville; 13great-grandchildren, Nickolaus (Julie) Stovall, Preston and CatinaStovall, Kristin (Deo) Chilambo, Catelyn and Kendra Edgel, Kayla andTyler Wills, Sgt. QUAKER CITY--Virginia E. Wehr, 80, of Quaker City, died Thursday(April 12, 2001) at East Ohio Regional Medical Center in MartinsFerry.
She was born April 6,, 1921 in Batesville, daughter of the late Wileyand Mae Shepherd Neuhart.
She was a homemaker and a Methodist by faith. She graduated in 1938from Batesville High School and was a member of the BatesvilleAmerican Legion Ladies Auxiliary 578.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,John I. Wehr, in January 1986. They were married Feb. 21, 1942. Agrandson Todd Wehr, also preceded her in death.
She leaves three sons, John Paul (Arlene) Wehr, Robert (Susan) Wehrand Jeffrey (Mary) Wehr, all of Quaker City; a daughter, Mrs. Jim(Carolyn) Stroup of Kona, Hawaii; two sisters, Bonnie Flood ofZanesville and Mrs. Jack (Louise) Krause of Manitowoc, Wisc.; eightgrandchildren, four step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was born June 29, 1924, at Batesville, daughter of the late Iraand Anges Carpenter Wehr.  She was a substitute postmistress atBatesville and a member of Quaker City Church of Christ.  She was aformer cafeteria cook at Batesville.
She leaves her husband, Walter Mallet, whom she married July 16, 1965;one son Darrell R. Miller of Westerville;  one daughter, Mrs. Phillip(Darlene) Carpenter of Cambridge;  two step-sons, Terry Mallett ofWilliamstown, W.Va., and Tim Mallett of Caldwell;  one step-daughter,Melodie Mallett of Marietta;  two brothers, Richard and John Wehr,both of Quaker City;  two sisters, Mrs. Jerome (Pearl) Montgomery ofBatesville and Mrs. Earl (Bessie) Bates of Caldwell;  and sevengrandchildren.  Two sisters and one grandson are deceased.

SUMMERFIELD--Walter Mallett, 80, of Summerfield, died Tuesday (May 26,1998) at Summit Acres Nursing Home, Caldwell.
He was born Nov. 15, 1917, near Carlisle, son of the late Miles andAnnie Cornin Mallett.
Mr. Mallett was a 1935 graduate of the former Summerfield High Schooland was a retired engineer for Columbia Gas Co., Cambridge. He was amember of Summerfield Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Madelene Wilkinson, in1964; his second wife, Marie Wehr Mallett in 1982; a son, TerryMallett; a step-son, Pat Kerns; a sister, Blanche Forshey; a brother,Willard Mallett; and a grandson, Timmy Mallett.
He leaves his wife, Betty Cline Kerns Mallett, whom he married June15, 1983; a son, Tim G. Woodsfield Child Dies of Shock - Neva Christman, seven-year-olddaughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Christman of Woodsfield Rt 3, died Thursday nightin
Barnesville hospital after her leg was severely cut by a scytheearlier in
the day.  The cause of death was reported as shock.
Surviving are her parents, Her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Wehr of
Batesville, three borthers and six sisters.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Calais Methodist
church.  Rev. J. V. A. Traylor of Woodsfield will officiate, andburial will
be in Calais cemetery by the Brubach funeral home, Summerfield.

Mrs. Bates was a member of Bates Hill Church of Christ and the NobleCounty Stepping Stones.
Her son, Herbert, preceded her in death in 1962.  Three sisters andtwo brothers are also deceased.
She leaves her husband, Earl Bates;  two daughters, Mrs. John (KarenSue) Hayes of Westerville and Mrs. James (Joyce Ann) Sprague of DuncanFalls;  seven grandchildren;  several nieces and nephews;  an aunt andsister, Mrs. Jerome (Pearl) Montgomery of Batesville.

2220. Hubert N. Bates

Obituary:  14 June 1962
Caldwell - Hubert N Bates, 17, of near Sarahsville, who would havebeen a senior next fall at Sarahsville High School, was killedWednesday at approximately 2:15 p.m. when the farm tractor he wasoperating overturned, pinning him to a rayrake.
According to assistant Noble County Coroner Dr E.G. Ditch, death wasaccidental.  Death resulted from a crushed chest, Dr Ditch said.
The accident reportedly occured on the Richard Davis farm nearSarahsville.  The youth was reported to have been operating thetractor on a steep hillside on the farm when it upset backwards.
Another youth, Robert Wheeler, 16, Sarahsville, who was riding on thetractor when it upset, was thrown clear and was not injured.
Young Bates was the son of Earl and Bessie Wehr Bates.  He was amember of the 4-H Junior Cattleman's Club of Noble County and theNoble County Junior Leader's Club.  He attended Bates Hill Church ofChrist.
In addition to his parents, surviving are his grandmothers, Mrs AgnesWehr, Batesville and Mrs Ethel Bates, Summerfield RD 2; two sisters,Joyce of the home and Mrs Karen Hayes of Columbus; and two nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at the BatesHill Church of Christ by Evangelist James Gallagher.  Burial will bein Village View Cemetery, Sarahsville.
Friends may call at the McVay Funeral Home here from 7 to 9 p.m.Thursday.  At noon Friday the body will be taken to the Bates homenear Sarahsville.

She was preceded in death by two brothers,  Richard and John Wehr; andfour sisters, Florence Hull, Lulu Christman, Bessie Bates and MarieMallett.
Mrs. Montgomery leaves her husband, Jerome Montgomery;  one son DwainMontgomery of Columbus and one daughter,  Mrs. Darrell (Linda) Watsonof Columbus;  two granddaughters.

He was born Dec. 6, 1907 in Noble County, a son of the late Samuel andAnna Brown Montgomery.  He was a retired farmer and school bus driverfor Noble Local School District and  member of Batesville UnitedMethodist Church.
Mr. Montgomery was preceded in death by his wife,  Emily Pearl WehrMontgomery, on Oct. 20, 1991.  Also preceding him in death are twosisters and two brothers.

HANNAHS, Hazel G., 94, of Barnesville, Ohio passed away Saturday,February 25, 2012 at Emerald Pointe Nursing and Rehab Center.
She was born December 28, 1917 in Fairview, Ohio, daughter of the lateLewis Carpenter and Martha Powell Carpenter.
Hazel was known as a hard worker and great cook. She had worked as aNurse's Aid at Barnesville Hospital. She was a devoted mother,grandmother, and a friend to all that knew her.
In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by herhusband, Harold Ernest Hannahs; daughter, Earlena Hannahs; son, JosephAllen Hannahs, five brothers; and four sisters.
Hazel is survived by her daughters, Donna Y. Moore of Barnesville, OH;N. Jean Easton of Tipp City, OH; and Betsy L. (John) Smith ofProctorville, OH; sons, Gary L. (Judith Ann) Hannahs, Lester L.Hannahs, and Dale R. (Beverly) Hannahs, all of Barnesville, OH; 14grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren;daughter-in-law, Joyce Hannahs; and sister-in-law, Jeanie Carpenter.
Family and friends may call, Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time ofservice at 1 p.m. at Kelly Kemp Braido & Patron Funeral Home, 702 EastMain Street, Barnesville, Ohio. Interment will take place at HollyMemorial Gardens, Colerain, Ohio.

Joseph Allen Hannahs, 22 month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hannahs,of the Summerfield community, died at 5:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon atthe Barnesville Hospital.  The infant had been ill since March.
Surviving in addition to his parents are three sisters, Donna, Jeanand Betsy Lou;  three brothers, Gary, Lester and Dale, all of thehome;  the grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Carpenter and Mr. andMrs. Glen Hannahs, of Summerfield route.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 2:00 o'clock at the familyresidence with burial in Calais Cemetery.  Thursday 23 June 1955 NobleCounty Leader.

Eunice Hannahs Christman, 76, of Woodsfield, died early on the morningof October 26, 1991, at the Barnesville Hospital, Barnesville, Ohio.
She was born June 15, 1915, in Monroe County, a daughter of the lateGlen and Patience Carpenter Hannahs.  She was a member of the TrinityChurch of Christ in Lewisville, Ohio.
She is survived by her husband, Eldon Christman, Woodsfield;  one son,Ron Christman, Deltona, Florida;  one daughter, Glenda Reich,Miltonsburg, Ohio;  one brother Lloyd Hannahs, Quaker City;  fourgrandchildren.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold andWayne Hannahs.
There was no visitation.  Private services were held October 28, atTrinity United Church of Christ.  Burial was in the Middle Cemeterywith Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield in charge of arrangements.Monroe County Beacon Oct. 1991.

WOODFIELD--Eldon R. Christman, 74, of Woodsfield died Sunday (Jan. 25,1998) in Englewood, FL.  He was born March 8, 1923,, a son of the lateFreeman and Estella Kilburn Christman.
Mr. Christman was a retired construction worker and a member of theTrinity United Church of Christ, Lewisville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Hannahs Christman, onOct. 26, 1991.
He leaves a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Candy Christman,Deltona, Fla.;  a daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Larry Reich,Woodsfield;  a brother, Richard Christman, Columbus;  a sister, RuthSeebach, Lewisville;  four grandchildren and several nieces andnephews.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 P.M. Wednesday at the Bauer-TurnerFuneral Home, Woodsfield.  Services will be 11 A.M. Thursday at theTrinity Church of Christ, Lewisville, with the Rev. Marcia Werntzofficiating.  Burial will be in Middle Church Cemetery, Lewisville.Tuesday 27 Jan. 1998 Jeffersonian.

He was a retired operation engineer,Local 18, Akron; a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II; a member ofQuaker City United Methodist Church; American Legion Post 578Batesville; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2792, Barnesville; ElksLodge 1699, Barnesville; Quaker City Lodge 500 F&AM; Scottish RiteValley of Cambridge and Aladdin Temple, Columbus.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Hannahs.
Mr. Hannahs leaves his wife, Grace Carpenter Hannahs; two sons, CarlHannahs and Larry Hannahs both of Barnesville; one daughter, Mrs.Dempsey (Charlotte) Phillips of Marietta; one brother, Lloyd Hannahsof Quaker City; one sister, Eunice Christman of Lewisville; sixgrandchildren; and one step-grandchild.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,Wayne H. Hannahs;  five brothers,  Harold, Lester, Mike, Marvin andFloyd;  two sisters, Helen Henderson and Emma Bates.
She leaves a daughter, Charlotte (Dempsey) Phillips of Marietta;  twosons, Carl (Elaine) Hannahs and Larry (Sharon) Hannahs, all ofBarnesville;  two sisters, Hazel Hannahs of Barnesville and BettyHannahs of Quaker City;  six grandchildren,  Bradley Hannahs, Robin(Kenny) Mollick,  Tray (Jan) Phillips, Michele (Steve) Szabo, Lance(Ashley) Hannahs and Carla (Jay) Grear;  a step-grandson, DennisHolskey;  three great-grandchildren,  Taylor, Cody and Ayden.

She was born Feb. 25, 1927, in Fairview, daughter of the late Lewisand Martha (Powell) Carpenter.  She was a home maker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd B. Hannahs, on March22, 2000.  They were married Aug. 9, 1947.  Also deceased are threesister, Grace Hannahs,  Emma Bates, Helen Hendeson; and five brothers,Mike Carpenter,  Marvin Carpenter,  Harold Carpenter,  LesterCarpenter and Floyd Carpenter.
