Dale S. and M. Viola Carpenter McDougal, of Calais, were united inmarriage June 26, 1954 by Rev. J.V.A. Traylor.
Viola is the daughter of Walter and Mary Stephen Carpenter.  She hasbeen a life long house wife.  Dale is the son of the Lawrence andEvaLee Mellott McDougal of Beallsville.  Dale is retired from theOrment Corp. of Hannibal.
They enjoy gardening,  canning, hunting, embroidering, gospel andcountry music, fiddle and banjo contests, fairs and festivals in thearea.  Dale and Viola are members of the East Sunsbury Baptist Churchand attend many others in the area.
They have two children, Rich and his wife, Sandy, of Waterford andCandy and her husband, Bob, of Calais.  Four grandchildren completethe family circle.  Matthew McDougal, of Waterford,  Joshua McDougalMcDougal, and his wife, Amber of McConnelsville,  Andrew Briggs, ofCalais and Moriah Briggs also of Calais.

Mary Viola McDougal, 80, of 51204 State Route 379, Summerfield, Ohiodied Saturday, June 11, 2011 at her home.
She was born near Calais, Ohio on January 13, 1931 a daughter of thelate Walter and Mary Stephens Carpenter.
She was a homemaker and a member of the East Sunsbury Baptist Church,Beallsville, Ohio and also attended the Calais Church, Calais, Ohio.She enjoyed reading her Bible, music, and embroidering.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,Dale McDougal on May 21, 2011; four brothers: Willis, Paul, Carl, andLawrence Carpenter; two sisters: Grace VanMeter and Thelma Carpenter.
Surviving are one son, Rick (Sandy) McDougal of Waterford, Ohio; onedaughter, Candy (Bob) Briggs of Summerfield, Ohio; four grandchildren:Matthew (Jennifer) McDougal, Joshua (Amber) McDougal, Andrew(Courtney) Briggs, and Moriah Briggs; five great grandchildren:Memphis, Nathan, Tylor, Issac, and Kinzley McDougal, and one stepgreat grandson, Wesley Bryan.

Dale S. McDougal, 81, of 51204 State Route 379, Summerfield, Ohio diedSaturday, May 21, 2011 at the Barnesville Hospital, Barnesville, Ohio.
He was born at Beallsville, Ohio on February 3, 1930, a son of thelate Lawrence and Mary Eva Lee Mellott McDougal.
Dale was a retired employee at the Ormet Corp., Hannibal, Ohio; amember of the East Sunsbury Baptist Church, Beallsville, Ohio,attended the Calais Church, Calais, Ohio, and a U.S. Army Veteran ofthe Korean War. He enjoyed playing his fiddle, hunting, gardening, andcarpentry work.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother,Paul McDougal. Surviving are his wife of fifty-six years, Mary ViolaCarpenter McDougal whom he married on June 26, 1954, one son, Rick(Sandy) McDougal of Waterford, Ohio; one daughter, Candy (Bob) Briggsof Summerfield, Ohio; one brother, Larry (Kathy) McDougal ofBeallsville, Ohio; four grandchildren: Matthew (Jen) McDougal, Josh(Amber) McDougal, Andrew (Courtney McGarry) Briggs, Moriah Briggs;five great-grandchildren: Memphis, Nathan, Issiac, Tylor, and KenzleyMcDougal; one step great grandson, Wes, and several nieces andnephews.

ZANESVILLE---Frank Willis Carpenter, 87, of Zanesville, died at 6:15A.M. Sunday June 30, 2002, at the Genesis Good Samaritan Campus aftera long illness.
Born Nov. 20, 1914, in Monroe County,  he retired after 35 years ofservice as a Line Foreman for Ohio Power Electric Co.  He was a memberof the Eagles Aerie 302 for 57 years and a 3rd degree Knight with theKnights of Columbus Council 505.  He attended St. Nicholas CatholicChurch.
Surviving are his wife,  Audrey V. (Burkhart) Carpenter, of the home,whom he married on April 30, 1938; two daughters, Wanda L. and FrankCarmichael, Connie Jo Wilson, both of Zanesville;  one son Stanley W.and Rose Mary Carpenter of Howell, Mich.;  seven grandchildren, DougGeyer, Daffney Geyer,  Kent Carpenter, Rene Carpenter,  Kem Wilson,Travis Wilson, Kelley Lewis;  nine great-grandchildren,  Wesley andAndrew Geyer,  Madison Geyer, Brady Willis Wilson, Emily Wilson,Georgiana Wilson, Hannah Audrey Wilson, Monica and Darren Lewis;  twosisters, Viola McDougal of Summerfield and Thelma Carpenter ofZanesville.

Woodsfield - Miss Grace Hazel Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. OttoMiller and Paul W. Carpenter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Carpenter, ofAthens, O. were married Saturday, Aug. 28, by Minister J.V.A. Traylor,at his home on Eastern avenue.  Mr. Carpenter is at present employedin the Training school at Athens.  They will make their home at 474Richland avenue, Athens.

ATHENS---Paul Carpenter, 79, of Athens, died Monday (Nov. 4, 1996) atMT. Carmel West Hospital, Columbus, following a brief illness.
He was born Dec. 1, 1916, in Summerfield, son of the late Walter andMary Stephens Carpenter.
He was a former Athens Middle School math teacher. He formerly taughtmath at the former Mechanicsburg School in Athens, Monroe County, OhioUniversity and Willoughby-Eastlake system, having retired in 1972. Hetaught math for 35 years.
Mr. Carpenter was a 1935 graduate of Lewisville High School. Hegraduated from Ohio University, earning a bachelor's degree in 1948and a master's degree in 1960.
He was a member of Athens First United Methodist Church, Phi DeltaKappa, former exulted ruler for the Athens Order of Elks, member ofOhio and National Retired Teachers Association and National and OhioCouncil of Teachers.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Van Meter; a brother,Lawrence Carpenter.
He leaves his wife, Grace Miller Carpenter; a daughter and son-in-law,Paula and Richard Bragga of Athens; two sons, Paul W. Carpenter Jr. ofAthens and his fiance, Anna Alloway of West Virginia, and Brent W.Carpenter and his special friend Diana Foss, both Athens; fivegrandchildren; former daughter-in-law, Clair Carpenter of Athens; twosisters, Thelma Carpenter of Cambridge and Viola McDougal ofBeallsville; two brothers, Frank W. He was a member of United Methodist Church at Lewisville,  AmericanLegion Post 496 at Kent and a life member of the Disabled AmericanVeterans.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, LawrenceCarpenter and Paul Carpenter and one sister, Grace VanMeter.
He is survived by his wife;  Cleo M. Herbert F. Johnson, 46, was killed instantly, and his wife, Blanche,43, both of Quaker City, died in a few minutes after admittance to thehospital, Saturday after they were involved in an automobile accidentat a railroad crossing in Lancaster.
The Quaker City couple were en route to their home from Waverly, wherehe was employed on a road construction job, when their automobilecollided with a train, at about 6:00 a.m., Saturday.  Investigatingofficers at Lancaster said that the blinker lights were in operationat the crossing and visibility was clear.
Mrs. Johnson was rushed to the Lancaster Hospital but died only a fewminutes after arrival.
They were the parents of one son, Robert Johnson of Zanesville, whosurvives.  Mr. Johnson is also survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs.Raymond Johnson of near Quaker City and a brother Oscar Johnson, ofCambridge. In addition to her son, Mrs. Johnson is survived by herparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Betts of near Quaker City.  They leaveone grandchild.  Tuesday 15 Jan. 1953 Noble County Leader CaldwellOhio.

Obituary:
Carl Rucker, 86, Beallsville, died Saturday, April 11th, 1981 atBarnesville Hospital.  Born July 13, 1894 in Summerfield, he was a sonof the late Homer and Willie Ann Carpenter Rucker.
He was preceded in death by one brother and an infant sister, twograndsons.  He was a veteran of WW I and a member of the BeallsvilleAmerican Legion Post 768.
Surviving are his wife Hazel Carpenter Rucker; two daughters, MrsHilda Barton and Mrs Mary Donna Kinemond, both of Shadyside; foursons, William, Clarington, Raymond, Kenneth and Homer, all ofBeallsville; twenty grandchildren and twenty-three greatgrandchildren.
Services were held Monday April 13 at the Harper Funeral Home,Beallsville with Brother Valiant Roxby officiating.  Burial was madein the Beallsville Cemetery.

Hazel Rucker, 89, of Beallsville, died Friday in Barnesville Hospital.She was born Dec 21, 1898 in Noble County, the daughter of the lateJohn and Harriett Smith Carpenter.
She was a member of the Church of Christ, Barnesville.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl, a son Homer, fourgrandsons, Richard Rucker, Donnie Rucker, David Rucker and RogerRucker; three brothers and seven sisters.
Surviving are three sons, Raymond Rucker and Kenneth Rucker, both ofBeallsville, William of Clarington; two daughters, Hilda Barton andMary Donna Kinemond, both of Shadyside; a granddaughter. Donna Otto ofBeallsville; one sister, Mrs George (Maggie) Mobley of Beallsville; 17grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville,today, noon to 9 p.m. Monday 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home, thenfriends will be received at the Church of Christ, Beallsville, fromnoon until time of services at 1 p.m. with Evangelist Keith Ballofficiating.  Burial will follow in Beallsville cemetery.
